Default The anonymous 150

The dynamics of this board are very strange.

Every morning somebody puts up a "good morning" string with a weather report, shopping plans, sometimes medical reports and other personal tidbits. On a typical day somewhere between two and ten others chime in with their situation reports. But according to the "View" column, another 150 or so generally read these comments without ever participating themselves.

The same is generally true of the few non-good morning strings posted, although over on the Open Debate board I can sometimes get a "View" count up in the 400s with a dozen or more replies when I decide to say something controversial.

Other than that, these boards are largely comatose. The individual cruise line boards only get a few new strings a month from what I can see.

It's a strange brew. Not many posters, some lurkers. I guess the counts on articles and reviews must be much higher.

It seems to AR just enjoys taking or inventory - he isn't here to discuss cruising, he is here to discuss CruiseMates.

I can only guess that some may deem me to be a "lurker" and sometime "poster". What I do know for certain is that I have a love for cruising and each and every day, that I lurk or post, I know that I am welcome here.

Yes you are welcome here. I love to cruise as well and we also do some land trips.
I post a few times each day whether people like or not.

I don't think that anyone who has been here for awhile, will disagree that some things are different.

When I started in 05 it was like a family. We stood out from the other web sites, with our good feelings for not only cruising, but each other.

Several years ago, we lost that loving feeling. Now you have the grammar police who start threads shaming people for not using the right words. You have attackers on the debate threads, who will jump if you don't agree with them.

I miss the old way, but as I was reminded when the change started, "It's not my site, it belongs to someone else."

Very sharp, Paul. You're really an incisive analyst. Of course, the slug at the top of the Chit-Chat board says "Open forum for non-cruise posts." But that doesn't stop you from complaining that I didn't talk about cruising in this string.

The irony is that I've actually started two cruise-related strings here in the last week or so, in clear violation of the "non-cruise posts" admonition. But nobody seems to have complained. And made some other contributions in other sections. Perhaps you missed those.

Every swing is a foul ball, but thanks for playing.

When I got lucky enough to find Cruise Mates, (2004) this was a very busy community. I was in here daily and everyone was posting on everything. I met some of the nicest people I have ever met on these boards. I also had the privilege of meet many of you on group cruises or at the Florida dinners. I regret that I never had a chance to meet all of you. It seems to me that things slowed down when Facebook came along. I use Facebook too and it is a great way to reconnect with long lost friends. In my humble opinion it does not come close to what was in here. We were close and looked forward to cruising together on group cruises. We loved to meet at the dinners in Florida. What happened to that? I remember meeting Ray and Helen, Tweety and Harry, Larry and Sharon and so many others on the Glory. What a wonderful cruise that was for me. I would love to see this board come to life again and be as busy as it used to be.

Laura, we can certainly do our part. I don't live that far from you, so we will meet one of these days.

Manuel, I would love to meet you and your wife. I am always willing to do what I can to organize a dinner. I did try twice to no avail. It is difficult for me since I am never sure if I can get there. I have to rely on the kindness of Ken and Vita if they are attending.

NUT, You are always welcome to come along with us, but with Vita's little business, we aren't as free to attend the scheduled dinners, like we used to be.

I post here almost everyday and I think we have a very friendly group here. I wasn't here back in the day but I really don't witness and bad behavior that some people seem to be witnessing, maybe from time to time there's a flare up but it's mostly peaceful.

I do wish we could have a group cruise every other and it doesn't have to be an official CM cruise, just everyone book the same cruise and have a nice time, It seems we're all taking cruises just not together.
I am happy to say that I will have the pleasure of cruising with Ray B & Lisa in 48 days .

As far as the Florida get togethers why don't we set a date far enough in advance to where folks can plan on attending. We should hold something on a set weekend one time a year.

I've always thought that this group was very friendly too. I come here a few times a week to get info and read some tidbits but that doesn't mean I have to post about it. You have given me some great tips and new ways to look at things and I really appreciate that. I will continue to come here despite what "others" might think!

Yes, we do have a lot of friendly people here. And you should come here to lurk or to post ( or both ).

I too enjoy this site. I come here to do both, lurk and to post. I enjoy reading (and posting) to see what people are up to and to see who is cruising to where.

I think the opening of other social sites such as facebook, twitter, etc. has led to the slowing of traffic here. I am guilty of it myself.

Your correct, I see it especially in the roll call forums that I go on. It seems most set up a roll call on FB now days much to my dismay. For me it's just not the same but I continue the cruise site roll calls even though I do join the FB page.
