Default Cuba Si, Cuba No

I welcome your thoughts. Will there ever be normal cruise ship visits to Cuba. If so, when?

There already is for every country but the US. I found a great trip just two days ago but couldn't go because of the Embargo.

25 days Cuba to Germany only $1164 including taxes. Such a shame.

Supposedly Carnival is sailing from Miami to Cuba in June 2016.

My friend is going to Cuba in May through a Temple humanitarian group..I was surprised how many regulations and rules there is, doing it this way...I think specifically Havana, has been so romanticized over the years, once you get past the glorious old 50/60's cars, the average cruiser might walk away disappointed. Maybe after a few years, when the city has built a good infrastructure,(if they decide to do it,) and can support the big ships, maybe things will be different..in my mind, Euro & Canadian travelers that visit Cuba, treat it as another beach port of call, and enjoy that aspect of the island...they are not looking for what Americans may be, having the embargo forbidding us what others could always enjoy.

I spent 2 weeks in Cuba last spring and here are some of my thoughts. Yes, I do see big cruise ships making stops (as we know them) but it's years away. Infrastructure will be required at the ports. The roads are no worse than the Caribbean islands and their tour buses are as modern as ours. Tour companies are numerous and well set up and would simply have to increase capacity so there would be no issue accommodating cruise tours. Of course there would be tours to the resorts on their beautiful beaches. I believe many would enjoy Havana as like most old cities it is steeped in history, has it's romantic side as well as the amenities we expect. The old cars, ca-leches and grand market only add to the Havana experience.

We met Americans in Cuba. They had no trouble getting into the country and had no trouble converting $US. All they had to do was make their way to Canada and book a holiday to an all-inclusive using the many Canadian tour companies. The people we met lived in Detroit and simply booked a tour out of Toronto..Of course this is easier/less costly if you live close to the border.

I read somewhere that while they might question what you were doing in Cuba when returning to the US when they see the stamp, no person in the US has been prosecuted for disobeying the embargo(aka rerouting to another country first to get there) in the past 3 years.

Trying to smuggle back goods without claiming them though will get you fined or potentially in legal trouble depending on what you brought back and how much. $250 for the first item they find, and potentially $250 for every additional item they find, plus you have to pay before you can leave customs. Don't have cash or that much on your visa? Better have someone who can wire it to you.

We are not going without proper planning. All factors involved will be considered and we will use an experienced travel agent.
There is a year and a half of time before we plan to go and therefore we will have time to study all issues.

Road Scholar outfit has some lovely looking trips to Cuba - even one "Cuba by Sea" is offered.
They are quite expensive, but hopefully as more companies go there, the price will go down.
It's on my bucket list, for sure!

Would love to go, cruise or by land. It is time to end the last vestige of the cold war.

My DW has a significant birthday in Dec. of 2017 so I'm planning for us to take a trip to Cuba because it's something on her bucket list and on mine as well.
Even if the state department does not like, what are they going to do to a couple of senior citizens.

For us it's Cuba Si

Cuba may be a communist country but I already spent a year visiting another communist country ( Vietnam ). I did not even need a visa or a passport.
