Default Thursday Good Morning

Morning Mates, I was up twice this morning, first time fed the animals, walked the dogs, the went back to bed for an hour!
Up again now and hope to make it to the gym for 10:00, since I missed swimming earlier.
Now that I've finished writing my cruise review and reliving the cruise I have PCD all over again. Time to start looking for the next one...

Good morning all. Last night we went to Ruby Tuesday for dinner as we had a coupon for 45% off since it was their anniversary. Not sure today will bring as I think that Bruce has done all the work that needed to be done.

All have a great day.

Default Thursday Good Morning

Good morning. It's dark and overcast but so far, no rain. Guess I'm still asleep; I had to ask Keith what day it was!

No special plans. I was hoping to go to Pasadena for Mexico City Soup at Houston's . . .

Good Morning

Rainy and chilly here today.....good for the grass seed

Up early to give kitty his insulin shot, I'm less than thrilled to be going back down this road again.

I'm really wishing I was on vacation somewhere, even if only for a couple days.

Wishing all a good day.

Hi all,
Back, again, in the office trying to catch up on all my miscellaneous cr*!
I wrote a quick review, if anyone is interested in my China trip. It is in the Unofficial thread.
Not much else to report. Hoping all have a good day and a wonderful weekend celebrating Easter or Passover or just the weekend!
Oh well, Here is my quick review!

Trip started with an overnight in Detroit and a pretty much uneventful 13+ hour flight straight to Beijing. We stayed in a hotel for three nights - Kerry - an excellent, very high-end hotel! Let's just say the bathroom and the bed were HUGE! We toured the outside edges of Tian'anmen Square and the interior of the Forbidden City. We also went to the Badaling Great Wall site and walked on the Great Wall! During this part, we also walked along the Sacred Way of the Ming Tombs. The last day in Beijing, we took a rickshaw ride in the hutong alleyways and was invited into one of the homes in the hutong area. This was very interesting!

We left Beijing on the first of three different China airlines we traveled on while in China. We flew to Xian and settled into a Sheraton - quite the let down after our last hotel, but still very nice. We went to the Terra Cotta Warrior dig site and saw three different digging pits and the chariot museum. This was a MUST see for my DH. We enjoyed it immensely! That evening, we went to a wonderful dinner and show on the Tang Dynasty.

The next day, we also toured a local museum before flying to Chongqing on the second (different) China airline during our trip. This was the only major flaw we saw in the trip. Once in Chongqing, we drove to the pier and made our way across most of the river on floating, moving "dock" pieces to get to the boat. Difficult for my DH and I let alone anyone with anything more than minor walking problems! Not a lot in the way of lights to see and constant moving, steps up/down and trip hazards! We made it on the boat and left the city almost immediately! We wished we would have had a bit of time in the city (the largest city in the world!!??) or, at least, could have watched the skyline as we left the city as it was all lit up (sort of like Shanghai, at night!). We were at dinner during this time, as we were very late getting to the boat and did not have window seats.

Once on the ship, the trip, again, improved. We visited a temple (12-stories up a pagoda! DH went up and I watched!) and made it through the gauntlet of shops at that stop!! Then, we went through a beautiful gorge area on a smaller sampan boat. Next, we toured the Three Gorges Dam area and then went through the locks (5 of them). Next day, we visited a school, sponsored by the river cruise company. The children did a performance for us and we visited a classroom and interacted with the children. We had postcards and maps of our state for the classroom. When I got them out of the sack, I was immediately surrounded by 10 or 15 "oohing" and "aahhing" children! I had not expected that sort of reaction! We left the postcards and maps with the teacher. Our last day on the cruise was spent at the Hubei Provincial Museum.

We left the following morning at 5:30 am for Shanghai on the third airline of China we were on during the trip! In Shanghai, we went on an evening boat ride to view the lights of the city. The next day, we went to the Bund along the river (our hotel, Westin, was about 1/4 mile from the Bund) and to the old city to tour a garden and do some shopping. It was a barter/haggle type of market with multiple persons coming up to you to sell luggage, watches, sunglasses or whatever else they could rush at you with on a display card - besides the shops you could actually want to visit. In the evening, we were treated to an acrobatic-type show. Sort of on the lines of Cirque de Soleil without as much fanfare. This was our last night in China and we had a noon flight out for 13+ hours direct back to Detroit.

Overall, it was a really good trip. We both enjoyed the trip and neither of us became ill. That was not the case for MANY in our group. We had several with sinus/respiratory illnesses and several others with gastro problems - severe gastro problems!!! I am immunocompromised and spoke with my doctor beforehand, so I knew what to avoid and did well on the trip! Most of the gastro problems were from such items I was told to avoid!! Some of it was plain common sense for traveling abroad! We had a dedicated tour escort for the entire trip. He was our guide, assisted with language and helped us with places we wanted to go but not in our schedule. We visited the Hard Rock Cafe in Shanghai and he helped us locate it and best travel method. He was a walking encyclopedia on China! I would recommend this trip to anyone who is interested in China and the specific sites I mentioned. If you have any questions or want more details, do not hesitate to PM me.

Haimia,
I also loved China and it sounds like you visited a number of the places we went. The pollution was very bad and Betty also had respiratory problems.

Did you try eating Honey Beetles at any of the markets? Delicious, but I doubt many would try them.

I'm so glad you got to experience this.

Take care,
Mike

Default China trip

Helen and I did an extensive tour of China visiting all the places you mention and several more. I can remember all of them even me. It was an amazing tour. It was during the time that the Dam was under remodeling. We were a small group of about 8 and it was awesome. if I was able I would do it again.
