Default Booking via cruise line vs a travel agent

With a nod to Canuckity's post about booking with a cruise line, I'd be curious to hear from those who do, why them instead of a cruise specialist travel agency?

I've done both, I have had more problems with a certain TA than booking myself.
Although if there was a big problem I would rather have a TA in my corner

I have always used a TA. It there are any problems they are there to help.
There is no advantage in booking with a cruise line.

Default Travel Agent

I always use an Agent. They work for you. Too Many phones you have to go thru to get info.

Honestly I seen don't see any upside to booking through any cruise line. I can't remember the reason, but one time many years ago I did book with a line, but, transferred it to my travel agent.

If you follow John Heald's FB page you can read how some are passionate about their PVP's, but really, what can they do for us except book the cruise?

If you've ever been in a position where you need help while away, a travel agent will help you, as I found out a few years ago, when we were disembarked in St Thomas.

If this service is at no cost to you, and you have experienced help to walk you you through any and all issues, I don't see how the phone clerk in Miami could help you.....jmho.......

Default Booking via cruise line vs a travel agent

I can't imagine booking directly and being sure I did everything correctly. I think that we all benefit from the years of experience that travel agents have accumulated.

We have previously booked through a TA, online and directly with another cruise line. Never had any trouble, either way, previously. The Carnival salesperson just couldn't seem to get things right after many calls/emails. Booked 8 people into 4 cabins and for example....only 1 person needed vacation protection yet was billed for 3 people. After the 3rd email it was finally straightened out. Maybe she was having a bad week.

great to hear all was sorted to your satisfaction.

We have always booked with a TA . Four years ago we found a wonderful TA .Her agency offers free insurance .They also offer Loyalty points for each cruise booked . We accumulated 500 points and cashed them in for OBC .
