Thank you Robin.

I am following your advice. We have plenty of water and non perishable food.
We still don't know exactly where Irma is going to hit but we will drive north if we need to.

Robin, yesterday after dinner we put the shutters on almost all of the windows, will finish today, except for the front door which will be the last one. Today I went and bought a few canned food items. We have a package of water and bottles that are frozen. Friday we will decide if we need to evacuate and if so will go to Tampa to our daughter's.

I hope all others in Fl are doing what they can to prepare and if needed do evacuate.

I hope that Irma does not come to the area where everyone on CM lives . I have many friends and some relatives in the state as well.

We certainly are following all the info about Irma and continue to put our plan together to deal with this potential dangerous situation.

Thanks, Robin!

We decided to pack up and leave Cape Coral yesterday, as we didn't want to get caught down there during the hurricane. We just weren't really prepared for something like that, given they'll probably be without power for at least a week or so in our area. If we had a generator and cooking options, we may have waited to see where it was heading. But knowing I-75 was already a parking lot, we figured it was better to leave early, than to wait. After seeing pictures on the news about the traffic on I-75, we're glad we made that choice!

We got up at 4:00am and left at 5:00am to drive to our daughter's house in Huntsville, AL. Normally, it takes about 13 hours, but we had tire problems and had to stop south of Atlanta and get new tires. Naturally, that made us late and we had to go through Atlanta during rush hour, which is always ALOT of fun!! By the time we got here, it was rather late and we were really tired. With all the traffic and having to stop and get tires, it took us 16 hours to get here and needless to say, we were exhausted.

After looking at the weather today, it looks like we may have lucked out and the hurricane is predicted to go more towards the eastern side of Florida, so we may not get as much damage as the original European model was predicting. But at the same time, it looks like the eastern side is going to get nailed and that's never a good thing.

Anyway, we slept late and now I'm busy trying to catch up with business, after being on the road all day yesterday. Biggest problem, it's cold up here!! Temperature in 70's and we're use to 90's - WTF!!! Sure glad I brought warm clothes - had to dig into the back of the closet for those! Oh well, guess I'll just have to suffer through it for a while.

On the good side, our grandson was super excited to see us, which is always a very good thing!

Hope my other cruisemates in Florida will take the necessary precautions - this is going to be big!

Pete

I am in Tampa at my daughter's. It was an adventure for the first part of getting here but I had no schedule so it was fine. Bruce is at home and he will go to work and stay in one of the buildings there so he will be safe.

Friends of ours in various parts of Fla are planning to leave.

When Hurricane Sandy hit NY in 2012 there was a mandatory evacuation in my town .Many people refused to leave .Ninety percent of the towns residents lost property .

We are staying in Florida.
Where we live is far enough north, and by the time Irma reaches this area it will be a lot weaker. They are forecasting category 2. It will cause damage to houses and such but we feel that we will be safe in our house.

Well, now we're really glad we left when we did. Just got the official word that our neighborhood is now under mandatory evacuation and everyone is required to leave.

At least as of right now, it appears the European model was the most accurate and it's slated to hit us pretty much head on.

Now, all we can do is watch and hope for the best that still have a house to go back to next week. And our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors and everyone else in harm's way.

Thanks, Donna! We're good for now. We're staying at our daughter's house in Huntsville, AL. Of course, our grandson is very excited to have us here!

Definitely going to be one for the ages!

I told everyone - they haven't had a major hurricane in Florida in 10 years. Now that we've built a new house, we'll get 3 this year!! Just our luck!

A late good afternoon. Well I am back home in Ft Pierce. since the hurricane will be hitting Tampa dead on. We got my car, Jennifer's car and Michael's ( my oldest grandson) car packed and we drove as a caravan across the state. We did not have much problem with traffic as most people were heading north and not east. My husband is staying at the DOT yard so it is Jennifer, her husband, my two grandson's and the oldest one's girlfriend here at my house.

Thanks.

Yep, glad we listened to the European model!! Looks to hit our house head on. We're just hoping we don't get the storm surge they're estimating. We're at 10-1/2 feet and they saying it could be up to 15 feet. Needless to say, that would suck because we didn't prepare for that. I'm pretty sure we can handle 140 mph wind without a huge amount of damage, but not the storm surge. Have no doubt we'll lose the lanai and possibly outside stuff like the pool heater and water system. Luckily, we have all the necessary homeowner's and flood insurance. Definitely not looking forward to this, but at least we're safe and everything can be replaced, except all those family pictures.

Yesterday, was our 45th wedding anniversary - definitely not the way we had planned to celebrate.

Happy anniversary.

I hope that you have your house when you go back. You have your lives, which is the most important, though.

My gosh I just don't what to say other than my heart and love goes out to those most effected by this storm.
I'm glad our CM's are out of harms way. Fingers crossed that the damage is minimal.

All is calm at this time. We did all we could to prepare for the storm. I have made tons of ice, to use in case we lose power. Mrs. TM is using a medicine that has to be kept cold.

We are staying home until it's over.

People we know who live in Bradenton, east of I-75, have been out taking pictures of the exterior of their home. This will help IF insurance claims have to be filed.

Charge all your electronics, fill containers for drinking water, locate flashlights, fill bathtubs to flush toilets, have candles and lighters and stay safe.

The daughter and family of one of my friends who lives in Fla had booked a flight to leave last Wednesday but it was cancelled . They decided to ride out the storm.

I heard that more than 2 million Fla residents are without power ,unreal.

They were pretty close to their predictions. The eye started hitting our area a little after 8:00pm - they predicted 8:00, but luckily it went about 30-40 miles east of our house - they predicted it would go right over. The good thing is, because of that, it's breaking down a little faster and they're saying the storm surge should be around 3 to 6' instead of 6 to 9'. We're sure hoping that holds true, because our house is at 8'.

Waiting for a report from our neighbor so we know how bad it hit us and how much damage we have to repair. Definitely could have been alot worse, that's for sure.

We still have power but some of our friends don't.

I have plenty of ice, plenty of flashlights, candles, food and water. Before it's all over many people will be without power.

It's 8:30 PM. So we still have a long night ahead of us.
