Default TV or no TV

I have 3 friends who do not own computers . However, they do own TV's .

Is there anyone here who has given up watching TV ? It really bothers me that watching TV is not free any longer .I know there are ways to hook up attenna's for TV reception but Mrs.LF is reluctant to do that.
I find myself watching very few TV programs .

If we're awake the TV is on! I'm usually reading, doing crossword puzzles or on the computer while I watch.
I'm also tired of paying big bucks for cable, but we live in a hilly area where the indoor antennas don't work very well.
I wish we could choose the channels we want, but I don't expect that to happen!

I like Fern wish we could choose the channels we would get but am sure that will never happen. I have the tv on all day, I have to have the "noise" but I do have certain channels that are on. When I wanted to lower the monthly cost I actually had to increase the number channels we get and it is for a time period, don't know what will happen when that time is up.

I look at the bright side. TV comes in great with a clear sharp picture. Today's large screen TV sets are very dependable. I watch a lot of soccer games and some news. I even have a channel from Portugal that comes in 24/7.
My wife has a few shows that she enjoys and as far as I am concerned our cable service is worth what it costs.

I remember the old day of lousy reception and a TV set that broke down quite often, usually in the middle of my favorite program.

Not thrilled with much on TV anymore. Like others, it is on if we are awake. Background noise!!!! We recently had notice that our cable prices were increasing. Makes a dish almost an option. However, I know with the increase in channels, I still probably won't find much on TV to watch.

Our DD#1 and DS-I-L use an antenna and seem to get quite a few channels. Of course, we live in a very flat, rural area so reception is decent for them. We may consider that option, too, but I don't think my DH can handle the number of stations they get - like 10-12 total stations vs the 60 or so we get now!

As many of you said, we also keep on TV on most of the time. My Mom had a few shows that she liked but she would turn off the TV as soon as she watched a show that she liked. I think that she enjoyed TV more than the average person because when it's on all the time you start to take if for granted.

Many of my friends have cut the cord, or never had a cord for the younger ines.

They use a combination of digital antennae or network local channels and streaming services. We haven't taken that step yet but the cost of TV is sickening.

My tv is always on, as I multitask...I tape tons of programs I enjoy. No problem there, and I love Netflix and Acorn TV...always something to watch for me.

I was not a tv watcher at all with the exception of the 5:00 local "happy news" program, and a very select few regular shows (Outlander and This is Us). Otherwise tv was off and I read books, knitted, or spend time on facebook (a new addiction!)
My husband on the other had always had the tv on in the bedroom, watching any sport that was on, favouring British football (soccer), hockey games no matter the team, and especially the Olympics. Since he's been gone, the tv in the bedroom has not been turned on once, but I have to admit I leave the one in the living room on most of the time just for the company, even if there's nothing worth watching. I'd rather listen to my chosen Oldies radio station than watch what's on tv!

Default TV or no TV

I've always enjoyed television. I remember the old test patterns when TV sets first came out. I was a kid and my Dad brought a set home. My mother had a fit!

I never watch daytime TV. When there's nothing on that we like, the set goes off. The set goes on at 5 p.m. daily for for the news and stays on til 10 or 11, depending on when we go to bed. So that's still a lot of television. On a sleepless night, I may watch The Tonight Show.
