I will be doing a ship inspection on the Fortuna on Nov. 17th, but not getting to sail on her until Feb. 10, 2008. You can give me a review of the cruise when you get back. I am looking forward to this cruise. I have 58 in my group so I am sure we will have a good time

It has been a whirlwind weekend..flew to Ft. Lauderdale yesterday, spent the night on the Fortuna, and flew back today. I am running on pure adrinaline right now. Costa held a VIP Celebration last night on the Fortuna and I was lucky enough to get to attend. I loved that ship! I felt it was very easy to navigate my way around even though I headed aft when I should have been going forward a time or two. My sense of direction is not the best anyway. The decor of the ship was very similar to Carnval, some neon, and bright colors, but I don't think as much. I loved all the murals of the Costa ships of the past. It was neat to see how far cruising has come. I was assigned a balcony cabin and found it to be very much like a balcony on the Carnival Spirt. The closets were better, the bathroom layout better, and cabinet space in the cabin much better than I had on Carnival. As for food, it was all good and loads of options available. Main dinning room dinner was very nice with a good variety of choices. It was a little warm in the dinning room, I was seated in the upper level so that may have been the reason, heat does rise. The staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions I had. One of the highlights of the evening was before dinner in the atrim area, 3 beautiful young ladies entertained us with violin music. It was absolutly the best I'd ever heard. I only hope they will be there in Feb. when I do a 7 day cruise on the Fortuna. I know it was only one night but it left me with a very good impression of Costa. They seem to really be working hard to make this ship a good fit for the Caribbean.

We will be on the Dec.9th sailing. It will be our 2nd time on Costa and our
55th cruise overall. We have been on Costa's Atlantica in 2001. Enjoyed it, especially the Toga night. Fun!!! John & Priscilla

We just got back from the Fortuna yesterday. The ship is beautiful, we had an outside cabin, was very spacy, seen the balcony cabins, same space as the outside cabin.
Sue, you must have get the VIP treatment.
Costa is certainly not ready for the Caribean and Americans. The food is poor in choice and only Italian variety. There is no lemonade station, excepi for orange and pineapple juice over breakfast. Fortuna just came transatlantic with a whole bunch of Italians and Germans on board. Nothing wrong with that, but they don't mingle with the rest of the passengers. The germans have their own CD on board.
The entertainment is poor, the CD Max is way below standard, his island talks and information just read from a paper.

Eddie, the shopspecialist, he was the only one who knew he was talking about and fun to talk to.

The customers desk is dramatic on information, they know nothing about the ship.

Be sure you have enough dollars with you, no ATM on board.
The ship is not European, it is plain Italian.
And the list is longer then this.

We had a good time with our friends, but for the entertainment and liveliness on board, we go back to Carnival.
Never ever Costa again.

By the way, I am European.

Jacqueline,
So sorry to hear your FORTUNA experience was not good. I know that the ship is very Italian but I was prepared for that. I have a group of 58 going in Feb. and one reason I picked that date was to give the ship and crew time to become familiar with the Caribbean. I have to admit that yes on my overnight visit we were given the VIP treatment, so I don't expect that on my week long cruise in Feb. What islands did you go to? We are doing the San Juan, St. Thomas, Catalina Island, La Ramona, and Nassau sailing. I have been to all these ports before so I will be able to help my clients out with shore questions. Again, sorry you had problems. I'll let you know how my cruise goes once it is over.

Hi Sue,

Our itin was Grand Turk, Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel.
The first two was the first time. On Grand Turk we had a bit of rain, there are enough opportunities to snorkel, dive, or just hang out on the beach. We stood on the lido deck and overlooked the island and thought, ok, we saw the island, to no tour necessary. There is nothing much yet.

Jamaica: instead of Ocho Rios we docked at Montego bay. Jamaica is an experience you just have to do. We did not do a tour, went to the shopping street and the Bob sled cafe, that was a hoot.

Grand Cayman and Cozumel we have been before.

Make sure your group like to eat pasta and fish. Or just order steak every night, my DH did that.

Oh and don't try to get money on Cozumel (JK), when you do, you only get pesos. DH made this mistake and we laughed our pants of.

Hope you have a great cruise, just keep in mind the ship and staff is very Italian.

We have sailed the Magica twice and loved it. It is different than other cruises. Entertainment focus is different. They emphasis the lounges and have a lot of good music in the lounges. The ballroom, latin lounge and 2 pianos bars, have multiple performers/groups that rotate from early evening
to about 1:00 AM. If you like to listen to and/or dance to good music, Costa will be excellent.

The performance team for the theater, also perform in the lounges at times and they had some excellent singers and dancers. They band and some of the singers perform as a group in a fifth lounge, a few nights. Theater entertainment was not to good, performers were good, but the show design was not very good.

For food, plan on eating Italian and European dishes. American food has noty been very good. Also plan on eating a few lunches in the dinning room. The food at lunch was great.
