Costa Pacifica - shore excursions to Ephesus and Cairo
We will be on the Costa Pacifica cruise out of Rome on February 20, 2010. We just discovered on this website that Costa often cancels at the last minute their English speaking tours. Looking over the ports, we feel very comfortable touring all of the ports on our own except for Ephesus and Cairo. Any tips on securing reliable English guides in the ports of Izmir and Alexandria?
Regarding Tour to Ephesus; It would be our pleasure to be in service to you.

We booked through Ramses Egypt Tour, I heard good things about them and they are reasonably priced. I think if you google it, you should find it. If not, let me know.

I do recommend the tour guide we used in Alexandria/Cairo. His name is Emad Abuhadeda. He has a masters degree in Egyptology and has an excellent tour and driver. The first day his niece who is also has a degree in Egyptology was our guide and did a fantastic job.
We were able to put together our own tour and they had no problem deviating from it if there was something we wanted to do or see. We did a last minute Nile cruise and it was well worth it.
I also suggest doing an overnight in Cairo if your ship is there overnight. I was able to get the Sofitel, on Priceline, for $130 and it was well worth it. It is almost a two hour drive between Alexandria and Cairo and you don't want to use up four hours of the limited time there.
Take care,
Mike
