I'm trying to get some information about drinks in Costa ships, but the Costa pages are not so clear about this. But what I seem to find is that only water and tea are free of charge in buffet area (but nowhere else?). Otherwise one has to pay for everything by glas or bottle? I don't even find any unlimited packages etc, but only packages that contain for example 10 soft drinks for 20€, and even that seems to be only for kids (girls and boys card). Is that really the situation with Costa? No coffee for free? No unlimited packages to buy?

I seem to remember some coffee being free, but don't quote me. But you are right about no unlimited option. At least last year when I sailed on Atlantica. In the MDR, iced tea was free. Splenda was not to be found. If you like hot tea, you might want to pilfer some from the lido, as the first few nights they had issues finding some for one of the people at my table, tho our wait staff was excellent. By the 3rd night they had almost all our habits down pat.

Well, I myself did some more researching work and found some information about X1 and J2 packages that have to be bought either 5 or 14 days prior to sailing from the travel agency or directly from Costa customer service. Costa internet pages don't mention anything about this.
I e-mailed about this to my TA, but he hasn't answered yet. Anyway it seems, that X1 package, which includes drinks only during lunch and dinnertime would cost over 300 euros for our family of five fo 7-day cruise. The J2 package that is truly unlimited would cost 900 euros!!! So I'm still thinking about this. We would like to take only soda packages for the kids, but that seems impossible since the rule is, that if anyone takes the package, then everyone in the same booking has to take it.
We did the X1 package since we are primarily wine drinkers and it was well worth the money we paid. We would often have them uncork a bottle at the end of the meal. We'd take the bottle back and drink it on our balcony. It was great for us. If some don't enjoy a bottle of wine with dinner it may not be a good deal.
Asked our TA about the X1 package and he claims that this year it costs 13€ (that's about $17) both adults and children. I have my doubts about that, because so far it has been different price for adults and kids.
Anyway that would mean, that the X1 package would cost 455€ ($595) for the hole family of five for 1 week and I think that's too much! (Especially considering that it's only for lunch- and dinnertime.)
Can adults use the boys and girls card too or is it only for the kids? I'm thinking about taking those packages and then one wine package for the dinners. I would get the wine package plus 200 portions of soft drinks for the price of the packages!
