Default Discovery Channel Special on Concordia

The Discovery Channel will be airing a special entitled "Cruise Ship Disaster: Inside The Concordia". It's scheduled for 9:00pm Sunday, February 19th on my local cable system. I saw some teasers for the show and it looked very interesting.

It's pretty good. I saw the first showing and they have repeated it several times....I was able to tape a later broadcast. The reports from the dancers are interesting.

I guess I'm thinking of the National Geographic channel one then?

I've set the timer for this one....

I recently saw one show on this, wondering if this is the same one or something different?

I feel that everyone who cruises should watch these shows It may open alot of eyes to what can happen on a cruise. Now dont get me wrong I love cruising and I love the ocean. But people get a false sence of security. There will always be the danger of something happening no matter how big the ship is .And the more people are aware of this the more people will be able to handle the situation on the very rare chance that something should happen

Dhill;

I completely agree with you. I love to cruise and will continue to do so but I believe that people become too complacent and take everything for granted and forget that they are on a ship and are at the mercy of the sea and the decisions of the Captain and crew.

Often we become more cruise cheerleaders than cruise realists and advocate all the good things about cruising and don't mention or think about the realities.

Take care,
Mike

I found it interesting that, according to this show, what happen was quite a bit different from what I had heard before.

It seems that the ship lost power shortly after it hit the rocks so they were not under power after that incident.

My adult son was watching with me. He turned to me and said "so you still heading out next Sunday?" I said "absolutely." This has put everybody on their toes. It is probably one of the SAFEST times to cruise.

I will however, know where my muster station is and listen attentively during the drill.

That was bone chilling! Very factual presentation. It cleared up the statements so many have said about crew members at the lifeboats. It wasn't that they didn't know what to do, it was they were waiting for the command to start evacuating. The factor of the winds floating the ship back to the island totally made sense. Many posters had previously reported the captain turned it, or an anchor was dropped to turn it. None could have happened...they had no power! I've read this program will be reaired Tuesday night again. This is a factual must see program. The Mass.Maritime Academy presented the routes taken, and maps as it drifted at sea, how that area of the ship was hit and why.

I have always taken the muster drill seriously and will certainly continue to do so, more so than ever. Hopefully the ones that tent to skip it will re-think that.

Will watch the show later today.

I have to read up on the time line because I have some questions as to why it took the Coast Guard so long to get there? When where they called.
Did the Port Authority no see a problem when the ship had stopped regardless of what the captain was telling them? Does the Port Authority’s equipment not show the ship listing?
I'll have to read up on this .

Great show! I will defiantly pay more attention to the drills from now on. Also, when there are people talking next to me and I can't hear the instructions, I WILL put up my hand and ask the speaker to request that the talking and joking stop.
