Yes...I have posted this message before but still haven't seen any answer: Does anyone know anything about the Spas that this Company (Harding Brothers) run on Cruise ships; how they work and what crew members may expect. Thanks.
I worked as a retail assistant for Harding brothers for 9 months. (Aug 03 - May 04)
I found that the other staff didnt have any retail experience, and that it is quite easy to get a job with them as they have so many ships and are always replacing staff.
It is hard work,- 1 day off in 9 months, sometimes 14 hour days, and the salery is £600 a month.
I did really enjoy the experience, i met some great people and saw some excellent places.
I would check out their website and email or write to them, i think its wwwhardingbrosltd.co.uk.
I have now being offed a job with starboard and will be joing another ship next month.
So... you really didn't like the experience with Harding Brothers, huh? !! Do they just pay a fixed salary or we also can receive comission for services and retail? If only 600 pounds a month for that number of hours I rather just stay on land and make 2 1/2 more than that and working only 6 hours a day.
Please reply.
Thanks
Most of the shop staff work for the experience and the lofe rather than the money.
The money you earn is your own, as food and accomodation is included.
I have heard you can earn good commision, however the ship I was on failed to make targets.
As for hours - we have most of the time off in port as the shops are closed, but it is never a set working schedule.
Looking back it was the best thing i ever did and i am joing another ship with a different company very soon.
If you are interested in working at sea, shop staff have it easier than other departments regarding time in port, and if you dont have any commitments i would say do it for 6 months and see for yourself, you can allways come home if you dont like it.
