I hope cruiseline staff will help clarify my question. I know the best possible and most desirable tip is cash, 100% of the time. However, if my room stewart or waiter, or any other staff member, does use the internet to correspond with his family; is it meaningfull to give him a prepaid, on board, internet card for his personal use? This could be of value if he is paying for time at the comparable rates, as the passengers are. If he is getting a discount, or even free use of the internet, then the value of the gift would't be equal to a cash tip. If this is the case, then my idea sucks. Your input and response is most welcomed.
Crew get internet access for 15 to 20 cents a minute depending on the ship. The cards have to be purchased through the internet manager on board for them to work in the crew cafe. It's a good idea, but they would probably prefer the cash. Then they can purchase an internet card on their own if they chose to.
