I'm audrey, french but in cairns right now. ;-)) Fact is I'm quite fed up with crap jobs in australia, but I still want to travel of course!! So cruise ships seem to be the perfect deal for me!! And I'm reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally motivated to escape from here and work very hard if it worths it! I've got (just from last year - feb 2004) a master degree in international business (marketing and management) and foreign languages (french-english-german and not so bad italian). I worked 6months in germany to prepare the price policy of a multinational firm in climate technologies as marketing assistant, and work 6 other months in AT&T Paris as international assistant in the ordering department (so a lot of customers relations!!). Moreover I've got few experience as receptionist in hotel in france and high standing banquets and buffets with hospitality agencies in paris and sydney. And of course I've got very good references from my ex-bossss! ;-))))
Seriously, do you think it may be enough to work as social hostess or in the marketing team or some other interesting position on a boat? How much time does it usually require to find something good? I know it depends of people! But how much time did it take for you the first time? Did you have much experience in that time?
Thank you for your answer anyway! Even if you have to destroy my dreams mate!!! ;-))))) just kidding don't worry!
HI Audrey- it really depends on the cruise line you apply for.... the Social Hostess position isone that you usually work up to and become cruise staff first as it is not an entry level position. again it depends on the cruise line. This usually applies for the bigger lines. good luck
I work for Royal Caribbean- which I love to death and actually work as the position that took over for the social hostess. RCI got rid of theSH position last summer. It's a great cruiseline with 20 different ships.
Also there is princess which I heard is good to work for too- if you really want that position.
My position is awesome- it is called Cruise Program Administrator and basically you are in charge of Embark/debark, all galas, captains gala, weddings, other events, and a lot of the cruise ship activities....
Or even something in Guest Relations if you have a lot of hospitality...
Actually I'm specialised in marketing, management and foreign languages (master in international business-3 fluent languages). I especially loooove contacts with customers, deal directly with them and try to solve all their problems with patience and smile (which is absolutely not easy I reckon!). But I love that! And I'm not so bad too. ;-))) Moreover I've got experience and very good referencies about it!
Anyway! Could be great to find sthg like that, but I don't really know which kind of position is that! Social hostess? Is there any marketing assistant position on a cruise ship? What do you think about? How long have you been working in a cruiseline? Your job sounds great and high responsable too. Must be terribly interesting then.
