Pls guys pls help me. Offer me all sorts of advise pls!!

I'm from Singapore, I'm a graphic designer. My past experience are mostly in the design line, whether its advertising or print media. However I had my own humble design company before and I dealt with clients and do alot of p.r.

I want a job that allows me to travel, migle with ppl, being in a service line. Ive done alot of research on cruise jobs and I want it really bad. I had my first rejection letter though but I wont call it quits.

Am i at a disadvantage for just having design background? Wld u suggest for me to have some hospitality experience first or shd I still give it a go? I am really eyeing the post of Assistant Cruuise Director but yes, I believe I should start from scratch so I'm now looking at the position of a Cruise Staff. Is relevant experience neccesary?

And guys, i have no savings really... if i apply for overseas cruise lines, will my trip, accomodation etc be sponsored? Pls advice pls. I will truly appreciate it!!

I think you are a person with ambition and you 'll get what U want . I have talked with people and read much on the Internet but never been on a ship , so don't believe me 100 % .
I don't think you can be hired for assistant director because of your country of origin unless ur professional background weighs A LOT . About the money - you should pay only the transportation to the port from which you are embarking the ship for the first cruise . Then there is a period of training which is paid for by the company . And ur sleeping accomodations and food are paid for on the ship . U can save all the money u earn . Whatever you choose to work , u should be ready to work 10-14 h a day with only 1 day off per week , so obviously it will be very difficult w/t experience .

You could work in guest relations (pursers desk), and in the back office.

There are also design jobs on board. Don't they create newsletters and promotional flyers to go under cabin doors every day?

Focus on your strengths. Do you have any people-related job experience? Are you good with computers? are you multi-lingual?

I suggest you prepare a resume with all of these skills combined, and expecially if you are multi-lingual think of ships where that is an asset. Star Cruises in Malaysia, parent company of NCL is an option, or Crystal Cruises which has a Japanese parent company.

If you are a US citizen you can work for NCLA, or I understand that NCL is now hiring a lot of Asians because of their Star Cruises relationship. They need people on board who can communicate with

If you like communication via graphics, try the Guest Communicator with Disney Cruise line, you are responce able for their print work on the ship and you will work with graphics computers, it is a hard job , but fun to do ,
