How often do cruise lines hire?
Answer: Cruise lines operate ALL YEAR ROUND. That's 365
days a year. The only time a ship may stop operating is
when it goes into what's called "dry dock". This is when
the ship is taken in to be repaired and refurbished. But
a cruise line company has a whole fleet of OTHER ships they
can put you on. So dry dock is almost insignificant.
The important thing to know is that cruise lines hire staff
like you ALL YEAR ROUND. That's 52 weeks of the year from
January to December. Of course, there are certain periods
of the year when they tend to hire MORE people MORE often -
for example the Christmas and summer periods - but in
general, it's always a constant steady stream of new people
being hired. Week in, week out.
2. Can YOU guarantee me a job on a cruise ship?
Answer: Of course not! And any book or website that
GUARANTEES you a job is probably not being totally honest!
We CANNOT promise you a job. Period. HOWEVER...we WILL
provide you with every scrap of information you could
possibly need to give YOU the very best chance of success.
Of course, there's also other factors that your success
depends on. For example, which companies are you
approaching? Exactly HOW are you approaching them (there's
a RIGHT and a WRONG way to contacting cruise lines)? What
position are you applying for? Do you have what it takes to
fulfil this particular role?
Let's take ME as an example. If I was to apply for a
position within the "Entertainment Department"...I would be
LAUGHED OFF STAGE! Trust me, I actually have LESS talent
for singing and dancing than a newborn 3-legged baby
So you've got to be realistic here. ONLY apply for
positions that are within your capabilities...but the really
great news is...whatever your ability, experience and
qualifications (or lack of) there are hundreds and hundreds
of such positions to suit YOU!
3. If I buy your book, what else do I need?
Answer: Nothing. Well, other than a little "elbow grease".
You see, you've got to get your hands dirty. You must get
your backside into gear. However, you want to put it.
In other words, you need to take POSITIVE ACTION and
actually do something with the information we give you.
Cruise ship jobs DO NOT magically fall into your lap. Santa
is NOT going to give you a job on a cruise ship. And before
you ask, neither will the tooth fairy. If you sit around
waiting for job offers...you'll still be waiting this time
next year...and the year after.
