Default crew wages, living conditions etc

As a passenger there is much speculation on what the crew makes
maybe someone who works as a waiter or steward could answer

Do they get paid a salary or just tips?
What would a typical salary be?
Do they have to pay their own airfare to or from for ship?

Do they share cabins with 2-4 other staff?
Do they get time off and how much?

Everyone speculates so lets find out the facts.
Thank to all that are willing to answer

I suggest you approach finding this out, as though you were looking for a job on a cruise ship.

The truth is out there.

Let me try to help:-)

Do they get paid a salary or just tips? waiter and cabin steward have a salary around $70.00 a mo that's right, the rest are tips, depends on the cruise they can make 300 or 500 high season per week, not per cruise
Do they have to pay their own airfare to or from for ship?all tiping positions have to pay their tickets.

Do they share cabins with 2-4 other staff?on carnival is two people per cabin from the same gender and dept.
Do they get time off and how much?they have time off usually around 3 to4h in some ports depends on their schedule

i just finished on ships
was a purser for 3 and half years on carnival..
as far as waiter and steward wages, not really sure, i know they make a hell of a lot of tips! they were on more cash than me by hundreds! thats for sure...

all staff apart from officers will share cabins with 1 other person..
the cabins are small, but to be honest, u are not there much!! its really fine...
i wouldnt have stayed for so long if the conditions were bad

tipping position jobs do have to pay for they're own airfare to and from the ship, because of the fact that they do make a lot of money...

purser, ent staff, casino, etc get their paid

i think spa staff, eteiners pay they're own, or the steiners company will pay for them to get to london as thats where they are based, and then if they live somewhere else, they have to pay the rest of the fare.... thats how my friends worked...she was from aus, and steiner were only paying for her to get to london... which was rubbish i thought

steiners... get 1 day off a week
all other staff dont get any days off...they get time off in the day, in between shifts.

stewards would start about 6am...finish at 1pm then start again about 530 and finish about 11....

Hey Emma, this is Fausto the italian purser, well actually ex as well...

How come did you quit?? I thought I was going to see you chief one day not too far

I felt a lil bit nostalgic and I came here and I found your post...what a surprise...

Is that true that the sweet Danielle quit as well?

Hey I dunno if I told you this but Murat had good words for you, and Devashish Kirty as well....

Right now I'm back to Napoli, my city and working on land... Carnival was an amazig experience, but not a place to make a career
