Default First contract!! Help pleeeease!!

Hi everyone,

I'm going to alaska on the 19th of May; I'm from Portugal and i have never worked in a cruise.. is there any important advice that you can give me? Clothes, stuff, laptop, anything that i should not forget to take with me..
Does anyone know how the weather is like at this time of the year?
What about the training? does it take long time??

thank you very much,

Ana

Hi Ana
I am in the same position, and it is funny as I leave in June for the Alaska run from Seattle on the Vision of the Seas.
As far as training that seems to be on going for the first month.
As for packing I would say yes bring your lap top and camera
you'll need some nice outfits and jeans and maybe 2 sweaters, running shoes, sandles, etc And then other clothes as well. I would also bring an umbrella as it does get rainy in Alaska in like August
I have learned this as I am preparing for my first ever contract as well.
Good Luck and if you need anythign else, let me know

Leah

hey ana and Leah,

Alaska is a geat run, weather does vary alot so a nice assortment of warm and casual wear is smart. laptop a good idea there are quite a few internet places where you can use them in port. Camera always a must. Training if your joining royal caribbean last 2 weeks with a training session everyday, starting the day you join. Nice once you get through that really the best advice i can give you is relax its an amazing experience. If either of you want any more information feel free to e-mail me tiberium_dj@yahoo.com the names tyler.

well boat drill is nothing special, all depending on what your responsibilities are could be everything from stairway control to muster station team member, what is your position on board?

As for training it is just a basic training, youll have new hire/new sign on training once you get onboard, from there you will have basic emergency, fire fighting, crowd mang., basic safety, (gold anchor standards, and save the waves, both royal caribbean only), sexual ethics, and a few on how working and living with a multi - national work force. All easy training, but not to be taken lightly, use what ya learn. Let me know if theres anything else I can do to help, and best of luck.

a shoppie well welcome, hope you enjoy your first contract, I have never worked on the vision but have sailed on her. In your position you will most likely be a muster station team member. ie. you will control guest in a single life boat station, and if not youll be stairway control, as for training it will go as I said before last around 2 weeks. Ill see if I can get in touch with a few ppl on the vision and get you some more information, when do you sign on?

If you have anything else let me know, i believe my e-mail is on here somewhere, best of luck.
