Default Life After Cruising?

Hi everyone!

Just curious...what has life been like for all of you crewmembers who have moved on? What was your position on the ship, and what do you do now? Do you enjoy your current job more or less than your ship job?

I am currently working as Cruise Staff in Hawaii (going on 3rd contract soon) and although I don't plan on leaving anytime soon, I am beginning to wonder what I am going to do next.

Thanks for your responses!

I was almost three years with NCL as first officer and I loved every minute of it! I met my wife and we sailed together for three contracts, first on the SS Norway and then on the Majesty.

After NCL I sailed on a shuttle tanker in the north sea before I started in a land based job last year. I'm very happy at home, but both my wife and I are somethimes missing the cruise ship life!

I missed the cruise ship life tremendously after I quit, which is why I started this web site. I like doing this better, but if I were younger I wouldn't mind going back out there.

Default after ship life

I missed ship life too. Even though it's been 11 years since I got off, I still occasionally think about it But I know if I could go back on (don't think they'd hire me now, they want younger) it just wouldn't be the same.

I did 3 contracts and would have stayed, but hubby, boyfriend at the time, didn't want to go back on, he'd had enough.
So life changes and we move on.
Haven't been on a ship yet since, but we're going on a 3 day next month. I feel I'm going to want to go down to crew bar and knowing I can't and have to hang around the 'cones' instead will be weird!!! That's why I haven't gone on a cruise yet.

Am I just being silly??

No, tracey, you're not silly at all.

I know for my self If I went on a cruise as a pax, at least with my "own" cruise line NCL, I wouldn't be able to relax one minute because I'd always been looking for familiar faces, etc.

MrMate,

My husband and I worked on NCL also, that's where we met! We were on the Star Odyssey when it was sold. Great parties our last few months!!

It's now the Black Watch, Fred Olsen line.

I met my wife while I was on the Norway. After that we worked for a year and a half together onboard before we got married. Then I continued sailing while she was working in Norway.
