Default ncla dishwasher

just got hired as dishwasher with ncla. my agent said the best way to get your foot in the door is to start at the bottom. she also said she was confident for promotion within a short priod of time. how true is this? does the kitchen crew recognize good hard work when they se it? or will i be taking out trash for 5 months?

You will probably be stuck with the dishwashing for the next 5 months, if you're not resigning before that time.

How did you land this job? You mentioned an agent? What did they do for you? How much are you being paid?

I was a utility galley (dishwasher among other things) on the NCLA Pride of Hawaii. I was promoted within a few months to galley steward.

If you work hard-have a good attitude- etc. it's easy to get promoted. Why? Many of your co-workers (utility galley's ) don't work hard and don't have a good attitude. I've heard this isn't the case on non US flagged ships.

DO not look for an agent. NCLA ALWAYS needs utility galleys.

It is relatively hard to get promoted to another department. If you have waiting, cooking or other specialized skills- you might be smarter to wait for the position you want.

On the other hand- I was offered positions in 2 other departments- that I had no experience in. (provisions and hotel department)

(BTW-The 2 firefighters on board the Pride of Hawaii both started as utility galley.)

Why-I volunteered when they were short staffed. Several of my fellow utilitys went to be junior waiters, assistant pastry cooks, assistant cooks, and utility hotel (housekeeping) But- they were the ones who always worked hard-and had a good attitude.

There is no guarantee this will happen- but- if a position is open- and you qualify, and you ask for the job- you may get it. Positions are posted in the main crew corridor-called "H-1" on my ship)

Want to be a utility galley?

1-Go to NCL.com
2- Go to the bottom of the page and click on join our team
3-Click on Ncl America shipboard positions

You DO NOT need experience
You do need a clean background, and US citizenship

Take care-Anthont
