There is no definate answer to how long you will be in a gap pool, it depends on when a position becomes available, which is usually if someone leaves or a new position is created. It could be days, weeks or months.
I have not heard of the term "emergency" gap pool. I am currently in a gap pool with Royal Caribbean who own Celebrity, and it is frustrating having to wait. Did you have any kind of interview with the cruise lines directly and did they mention anything about this emergency gap pool.
