Are a certain number of employees taken from current ships in the fleet to fill positions on new ships, like the Carnival Magic in May? Or do they hire a complete new crew? I guess all cruise lines would follow the same procedure.
Hi there, we were lucky enough to be on board for Queen Victoria's maiden, and were told that well over 60% of the crew had volunteered to move onto her from Cunard's other liners, then another large percentage came from other 'Carnival owned' ships, so that the new intake were in the minimum.
I guess that this is fairly standard practice to ensure that the new ship runs as smoothly as possible.

Hi again, yes we have to admit that it was something completely different, from the amazing firework displays & bands as we sailed from most ports, to the crowds of people eager to see the ship in each port - you almost got to feel how celebirities must feel when they go on tour for the first time.
Everyone on board were so pleased to show off their new "home", and obviously proud of what they had to offer, and that they had been picked to work in her. Along with the knowledge that it wasn't only us passengers getting lost & heading off in the wrong direction to meeting places etc.
We also took advantage of having our wedding vows renewed whilst on board as we were in our 20th year, and later in the voyage the Captain kindly signed the certificate during a book signing session.
And to think, we were only lucky enough to be on her after a call up from the 'wait list' saying that we had 10 minutes to decide - 10 seconds was more than enough time
Thanks for the thread, answering it brought back all sorts of great memories.
Alan & Katrina
