Basic hiring practices
I am researching the cruise line hiring process for a class and would love it if any former or current crew members could answer a few questions for me.
Specifically: General requirements to embark for the first time,
explaining the application process, are there (and what are) any specific requirements that a candidate must possess prior to applying for a position on board?
How/Where to obtain the necessary paperwork to work on board--
In case of specific requirements such as proper documentation; professional training courses ; physical tests; and explaining how to obtain them and where and if the company will provide (and pay for) any of them upon hiring or if candidates are requested to possess them before being considered for a job on board.

Will answer most of your questions. Usually any line will expect the employee to foot the bill for all expenses getting to the first ship contract - but sometimes some things can be negotiated (like airfare to the first ship)
Ships that require a MMD (google this or look it up on this forum) will usually pay for that training. Most 'safety' and corporate training happens onboard.
But for any job - you really need to have the qualifications for the job before stepping foot on your first ship, and you just need to look at the job qualifications to see what is expected.
