Keeping valuables safe
 

Hi all,

I will be signing on to a Carnival ship in a month and have some questions regarding valuables.

Are there safes in the crew cabins? officer cabins?
If not, would it be safe to just lock away your valuables/laptop in your luggage bag?
Is there a lot of theft on ships?

On NCL, I was told crew members will have their own safe to keep passports and other important documents for safe keeping. As for laptops and other types of computers each crew members should have their own closet to keep their possessions see below:

Now some of the closets don't seem to have locks on them so I take it you might want to get to KNOW your cabin mate to establish trust and respect. You and your cabin mate might want to talk about who will be coming and going in your space. If the cruise line you work for take theft seriously anyone who is CAUGHT stealing is FIRED period and have to pay their way home.

Suggestions:

Enable the password on your computer or laptop.

Keep expensive stuff at home with a relative or friend.

Don't advertise what you have in your cabin.

Mark your property!!!

just watched the video of the POA with my grandson who is on his 5 week leave from the POA (he goes back in just over 2 weeks) and he knows the girl who made the video. His cabin has 4 people so his cabin is slightly bigger just to accomadate the 4th person. He said the safe is big enough for his laptop and you have to either bring your own lock or you can buy one from NCL.

Congratulations on your grandson 1st contract. I hope he is resting well for his 2nd contract considering the stories I've read on the internet about crew turnover on the Pride of America. Hope to see him when I start my 1st contract which is days from now.

I know that on Celebrity and Princess that have safes 100% for sure. I'm sure that carnival does as well.

If, by chance, your cabin doesn't have one...the Crew Purser's office should be able to accommodate your valuables with a safe.

I worked 2 contracts and never had anything stolen.

He goes back on June 30th, this will actually be is 3rd contract. He is assistant cok and works in the Cadilac Diner the night shift.

I start my first contract on POA on the 30th!

what job did you get? Grandson is an assistant cook and works in the Cadillac Diner, night shift.

I am currently on the POA started June 16 and writing this on my break.

Expect a week of training.

Tip: Remember your safety routes!!!

You will know when you get on board.
