the waiting is the hardest part
Hello everyone --

I sent my video demo and application package to a particular line that I'd like to work for a couple of weeks ago, and have not heard anything back except for an automated response that the material was received. I've never worked on a ship before, but have a strong preference for this line as they employ entertainers similar to myself and seem to have good conditions. However, if there are no openings and/or they aren't interested, I'd want to apply to other lines or an agency. Any opinions on how long I should wait before doing so, and whether it would be worthwhile to mail a physical application as a followup to the online version already submitted? The company does not accept direct emails or calls from applicants (i.e., after applying, there's no way to check on the application or contact anyone in the relevant department).

It's hard to give advice without knowing exactly which line you applied for and for which position, but I can tell you that I did not hear back directly from the line I was hired by until about a month after I submitted my application/video directly to them. In the meantime, I had applied and been hired by that same line through a recruitment agency. If you can find a reputable recruitment agency in your home country, you may have better luck being hired if you go through them as opposed to applying directly through the line.

Thanks -- ended up contacting an agent, and had an offer within hours, which I accepted.
