Default Passed my final interview with Royal Caribbean... but I have braces?!

Hi guys

It's been my lifelong dream to work on a cruise. At least ever since I was 11 and went on my first cruise with my grandparents. It seems like the dream is about to come true, but there's a problem: my braces. The interviewer did not mention them, but when I talked to the clinic where I'll have to do my medical, they told me I will have to remove them...

I was not supposed to remove my braces until December. I've only had them for 7 out of 12 months. I know that if I take them off, my teeth will probably go back to where they were before. Moreover, I'm not sure if I'll be allowed to wear a retained on board.

I've sunk so much money into my dental treatment, that this is a really tough choice to make. My recruiter said they can hold me off on land for a few months, but not until December.

Does anyone have any info that could help me? Have you seen cruise staff wearing braces? What about retainers?

Also, should I pass the opportunity now, is there any chance of being hired in the future? I'm heartbroken about this...

Keep your braces on and re-apply when your teeth are all set. There is always more work on cruise ships, turnover is rapid, and you will have no problem getting a job. I would also bet that the recruiter you've been dealing with will indeed want to book you at the time that is best for you, and is presently just eager to place you in order to receive a commission.

My recruiter said that we can wait about 6 months before RC gives up on me. I'm scared that if I don't go within that time frame, that they will scratch me off their lists.

I had braces once too and it took regular visits to the orthodontist during that time you have them on. Can't see how you could be on a cruise ship and not finish with the braces...Don't think the retainer will be a problem once you are working onboard....

Hello Donna,
first of all, sorry for my english
you say it only takes regular visits to de orthodoncist but, how do you do that? do most of companies have dental asistance for crew members offshore? or you have to look for different dentists when the ship stops?
