Last year I was appalled to find that there was indeed an additional charge for ice cream on Princess at the Lido ice cream bar. At least it was good ice cream, (Hagen Daz). Since HAL is a Carnival Company now too I suppose they will follow suit. I will find out in April.

I just read today on another cruise board that between 3:30 and 4:30 pm they offer free ice cream..unannounced. Many people didn't find out until the last day or so. This was on the Sapphire. I'll let you know in 6 weeks.

I am not surprised to hear that they are now offering some free ice cream "unannounced" because they were taking major flak from the troops used to their free afternoon fix. I felt sorry for the poor guy serving it, when he announced that there was a charge.

Back from December Princess cruise on Sea princess. The only free ice cream was in the buffet area from 6-10pm each night. They used to serve it free during lunch, not anymore. We had to pay for any other ice cream, soft or regular, with added toppings at 25 cents each topping.
I've been on several Princess cruises, and each time, they served ice cream for free in the late afternoon in the Horizon Court. The best I had was coconut...yummy! They usually have cookies or brownies in the Horizon Court, and you can sometimes make a sundae of your ice cream.
All of the ships I've been on have also had a Haagan Daas stand as well. I do occasionally get one there. I don't mind paying for an occasional treat.
Maybe someday, they will bring in the soft serve machines like Carnival has. Wouldn't that be nice!
