Yangtze River Cruise and wine

thinking of doing Viking for 10-12days. we're big wine drinkers and don't want to get soaked on prices, anyone now if they're reasonable and can you take your own aboard? is oct best weather, any other tips??

It's been four years since I did the three gorges trip on Viking, but at that time wine and beer were available at dinner, no charge. Many lunches and several dinners were provided off-ship, at one of the sites visited, and again wine was served, as well as a VERY potent Chinese cordial (?) at one lunch. I never looked into getting wine at any other time.

My trip was in September; the various cities had shirt-sleeve weather, although it drizzled all of the day we visited Tiannamin Square and the Imperial City. In the three gorges area, though, the steepness of the hillsides causes pretty strong overcast over the river, and it can get a little chilly.

Thanks for info sistersolo

i'm looking to go in oct and maybe there'll be less drizzle. i'm a 49yr old, straight female new yorker. just wondering if i'll feel out of place on this kind of cruise surrounded by couples. would be nice to find a cruise with some singles NOT looking to hook up. any ideas??

On our trip there were at least 4 people traveling "solo" but Viking has been upsizing their ships and in the process eliminating single cabins. I had a single on my Ukraine trip and it was great. River cruises are pricey as is, without paying almost double as a single.

If your trip is through the Three Gorges, you will encounter some overcast and some drizzle just about year-round. It's the terrain that causes it, not the season.
