Default Pork on the Fork

I guess everyone has heard about the devastation of the little piggies by a virus in the United States. I love pork in the morning on my eggs and bacon in my Ceasar salad and just on plain sandwhiches. Has anyone noticed if the pork offerings are being reduced by cruise lines. And I guess that American porkers could be replaced by either European or Asian.

If you are referring to the H3N2 swine flu virus that was detected at the North Dakota State Fair, I think you are a little premature in your "devastation" argument. Those are 3 pigs not the entire species.

According to the CDC: The H3N2 virus was first identified in U.S. pigs in 2010. A surveillance program run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service found 73 positive tests in fiscal 2011 and 138 in fiscal 2012. It was identified in people in 2011, with 12 human cases in the U.S. that year, 309 cases in 2012 and 19 in 2013, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Most infections were associated with prolonged exposure to pigs at agricultural fairs, and there has been no sustained spread of the virus, according to the CDC.

I think your sausage is safe for now but the current prices for beef and pork may have you switching to tofu sausage.

Take care,
Mike

I eat pork quite often. I am sure that it's safe to fork and bite the pork.

Bacon bits with croutons makes the Caesar salad a tasty treat for me. If I am in Tijuana I will go with the original Caesar salad, but on a ship when I have a choice I will put on bacon. I know I may offend the purist but every man must satisfy his personal appetite mine is bacon on Caesar salad.
