Formal Wear

I am a first time cruiser,traveling on the Carnival Spirit April 29th.I have a dressy 3/4 length Skirt,multi colored. It goes with a Blazer top that is also multi colored. Would this be suitable for the formal nights, or should I bring a more formal full length gown?

I also forgot one more thing. How hot will the weather be for May in the Paname Canal and Mexico? Will the humidity be very high? Will i need a sweat shirt or jacket and or sweater for the evenings at sea? Thanks a bunch.
