dress for Cape Horn

I was wondering what recommendations others might have on the necessity of taking heavy coats, parkas on the South America cruises. I know that it can get cold around the Horn, but wonder what others experience has been and if really heavy weather coats are worth the trouble of packing? Any recommendations would be appreciated.
