Hi!

I used to wonder about that, too what with the old never wear white shoes before Memorial Day or after Labor Day rule!

In the warm climes, on cruises, by all means wear your white shoes! If they go with your outfit, light colored shoes, white, whatever, are fine!

Enjoy your cruise!

Sue

Those rules are suspended in the Caribbean.

Hey Hugger,
I definitely agree with Pam, those rules don't apply in the Caribbean!! I myself have brought white shoes and I'm not the only one wearing them, even if its winter at home, so go ahead and pack em!

Thank you LADIES - you know prior to moving from MI to FL 8 yrs ago I always thought if you went anywhere warm you could wear your white summer things. After moving to FL I found out that it's a "no no" here. I myself thing it's a ridiculous little rule - lots of people in FL where white year round - we have snowbirds and they are coming to the tropic's after all.

I'm taking my white shoe's as they look so much better with my white linen sundress - THANKS ALL. I just needed to have permission

Hugger ...

I lived in the Caribbean for four years. The "locals" changed with the seasons. Darker colors, no white shoes, etc. in "winter."

Heck, it gave us something to do

As far as the "rules" go, those my mother promulgated were even more strict. No closed white shoes, EVER. I still remember creeping out of a shoe store with an actual pair of white shoes, wondering if Mom was looking. But they were essential for that blue and white dress.

no, no, no! no white heels EVER, not anywhere, for any reason.

2 exceptions:
-you are a nurse and you are at work
-you are under the age of 6

no white shoes, not even for brides. there is ALWAYS another shoe color that works. i wore pale, icy-blue shoes with crystals under my wedding gown.

NO WHITE SHOES! THEY ALWAYS LOOK CHEAP, NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU PAY, NO MATTER WHERE YOU BUY!

i always pack a pair of casual white sandals and a pair of white dress sandals when i cruise the Caribbean. Not crazy about white shoes, personally but that's just me.

I wholeheartedly disagree with donjoy extreme anti-white shoeism (but, to each her own). Many white shoes do look cheap, but there are some very attractive strappy white dress shoes available now that would look very nice with a white linen dress. White pumps are a definite no-no, however, unless you are dressing for an 80s party. You might also consider pale gold strappy sandals with a solid white outfit. They will look nice with other dresses as well.

I am also a non-white shoe person. It seems to draw way too much attention away from the outfit to the feet. If it were an all white outift - I would consider some very strappy (with very micro-slinky straps) slim heeled sandals, but that'd be it and hopefully a great pedicure would take away from the white color of the shoes. But I'd have to agree with Donjoy about the icy-blue color or even nude with all white - looks classier and much more put together.

My personal rules: no white pumps, tennis shoes (they just seem to glow an odd white), sandals, dress shoes or flip flops. I'd rather do khaki, black, blue, etc....any other color.

Hmmm, I may just have a white-shoe phobia. I know white may be the match-all but the emphasis is drawn away from that great outfit you just bought........

I guess my name says it all. Come on folks- RELAX!!!!
We are talking about a pair of shoes. If you like them -wear them. If the people around you have the time and are making the effort to worry about your shoes then guess what- they aren't having a good time because if they were that's what they'd be doing instead of worrying about your SHOES!!!!
It's the caribbean and you're on vacation- wear what you like !!

If you are not comfortable with white shoes or sandals, go for a neutral tan.

Personally, I love white sandals, not too dressy though and when I cruise the Caribbean I bring my white capris, shorts, slax and white sandals with caribbean colored tops.

Even though I live in Miami all year, I love the ambiance of being on a cruise ship heading to the Caribbean and love to play the part and white is a big part of it.
