Hi Lisa,
What works best for me is throwing on a pair of jean shorts over suit and I love those Takini suits, more comfortable than a regular one piece and much easier to deal with.

Hi Girls,

As we get a little older and gravity takes its toll <G>, we can't wear those cute little bikinis anymore. I tried a one piece with matching coverup. That did nothing for my appearance. I am long waisted, so just picture that <VBG>. Anyway, I invested in a few Tankinis and I just love them. As you said Donna, comfortable and easier to deal with. For a little more coverup, I bought one at Kohl's (a coverup that is), cheap, cute and fashionable. I bought my Tankinis at LandsEnd. You can go online and shop there Lisa.

Good Luck!

p.s. Mark thinks they look good on me too!!

i have a Land's End tankini and i can't wait to wear it. I bought it last year and have been "saving" it for cruising. I think i will go with the mesh shorts for excursions and a t-shirt for covering-up my shoulders which for some strange reason always get slightly burned no matter what i do. How does that sound?

I'm part of the Lands' End tanktini fan club. . . As for cover-ups it depends on how burned I am. :P I have a tank-dress-style cover up that's easy and comfortable, but once I get sunburned (and not matter what I do, it will happen. . .), I have a couple of lightweight long-sleeved big shirts I use to protect myself.

For all you gals who wear the tankinis . . . do they gap and show your tummy? I have got a tummy and a half (sigh) and refuse to wear anything that will show it. I'm looking at getting a sarong also or maybe even making one but don't know if they work on the larger sized ladies as well. Anyone know?

I have an apple type figure (plus sized) and mine doesn't separate. Frankly I was rather amazed that it doesn't show anything since it's just a cute clearance cheapie from Target. I adore it. And I've gotten compliments which doesn't usually happen when I'm wearing a swimsuit.

Hi Tasha,
I've been buying those for a few years and absolutely love them. Yes, there is a slight area where is does show a bit of my stomach when laying on a lounge chair, but not enough to make any real difference. When walking and sitting, no there is no area that shows, but they feel great, look good, etc. If you can sit and walk and it stays in place, you should be fine.

I have 2 light colored denim , light cotton things bought at Venture (More than 15 years ago) and Target (a couple years ago). they cover all my "middle age" bulges and are decent enough to actually wear in port. They also double as a robe when room service is on their way. target had them in the lingere section again this year at about $15 and now closing out for <$10. I wear them over my swim suit for breakfast and lunch on sea days and often if doing water stuff in port.

Hey thanks for all the feedback ladies.

I went looking for tankinis and a sarong today but didn't have any luck. I might just pop over to Target tonight and have a look there but it's getting pretty late in the season and I kind of doubt they'll have my size left. Saying that I got some water shoes there for $4 a couple weeks ago so I might luck out.

Hey Tasha, not sure what your definition of "larger ladies" is but I am a larger lady and let me tell ya, I love the tankini!!!

Go to ebay, you will be surprised how many you can find on there, brand new, for half the cost. I just got a super cute one for 10 bucks, brand new!!!

Good luck

Just in case anyone is still looking, Lands End has a really good sale on Tankini's right now (just bought two). The price was definitely right & I will use both on my upcoming cruise in October. Enjoy!

ditto what Cathy said, Land's End tankinis are the best. i have the halter styled one and i love it, the top is long enough and the bottom comes up high enough and it has a little bit of tummy control to boot. I also bought a cute sexy little red tankini with mini-skirt bottom that has a slide slit from Newport News , i didn't think that skirted swim suits could be sexy but this one is

I got my tankinis at K-Mart, by Kathy Ireland, and I LOVE them!!! I have one matching cover-up for one of them (it wraps around my waist and is about knee-length). The other tankini has a black bottom and the tank has orange and red and blue flowers and I wear an orange pair of shorts with them, just a plain knit short that I got for like $7 at Wal Mart.

I found some cool terrycloth skirt things that I'm going to use that are about the length of a tennis skirt and SUPER comfortable in bright colors. I also have a jcrew sarong that fits around my size 16 hiney. I bought another one that was "one size fits all" from a different store that wasn't really one size fits all. So I think it depends on where you buy it. I have toted the J Crew sarong to Va beaches and to miami and it has served me well. I just tie it on with a tank and go. It's soft cotton and machine washable.
