First of all, I would like to thank all of you experienced cruisers for providing such great information for all of us who are first-time cruisers. I especially appreciate the packing list and advice. Just one question...what would you use the following items for? Please excuse my ignorance! ;-)
I was My Lysol (though I prefer the citrus sprays) :-)
I was laughing at the aforementioned list -- looks like what you would find in a serial killer's car! (I watch way too much Forensic Files)
Can I add a small but useful item???
Clothes pins!
You can hang up your swim suits on the clothes line in the shower (rather than throwing them over the line and only the outside drying). I also use them to keep the drapes closed (especially if you sleep with the balcony door open).
And finally, on Royal Carribean when traveling with a friend, we used 'em to close off the curtains to the bed area so one person could change while the other watched TV.
I have another use for the duct tape!! Lets just say I am a little top heavy and my formal gown is strapless and backless.. I am unable to find a strapless, backless bra in my size, so duct tape it is!! :0)
Hi,
I'm a first time cruiser setting sail on the Maasdam 11/9/2003. I have heard the urban legends about duct tape, but I would really appreciate some more explicit directions on how to use it to address the backless/strapless problem. I have a dress I'd love to wear, but can't find a 'foundation garment' [as they used to say] for it.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I worry about what will be left of my skin when I take the tape off. Anyone been brave enough to try this innovative solution?
Yes, please tell me how this duct tape works!!! I have two dresses that would be much better without the bra straps showing! I fall into your category Betty....so would love to know exactly how to "apply" the duct tape without alot of pain or damage...!
My cruise leaves Nov. 15,2003 RC Grandeur of the Seas. We will see Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Costa Maya I have not packed yet and would love to get a copy of the packing list ya'll are talking about. Please help.
Tam, if you go to www.cruisediva.com you will find an extensive packing list, i think its a bit over the top but you get a good basic idea. I think if you go to the articles section of this sight you might find a packing list there.
A few basic must-haves:
1. Cruise Documents & Identification
2. Fanny pack or small backpack to carry daily "stuff"
3. Sunscreen, sunscreen for lips
4. Baseball hat or some type of head covering
5. Croakies if you wear glasses
6. Sunglasses - broad spectrum, blue-blocker types work great on the glare
7. Water sandals or water shoes - decks and beach sand gets very hot
8. All basic toiletries (most ships provide basic shampoo, conditioner, soap)
9. Prescription meds in original marked containers, same goes for OTC medicines
10. Purell type hand sanitizer
11. small travel alarm clock
12. Pens for filling out documents
13. If you like to snorkel and have your own gear, bring it
14. Waterproof one-time use camera
15. Good pair of walking sneakers
Insulated cup for ice water for pool time
Small wipe-off board to leave notes in the stateroom for one another
Lysol spray
Extra cheap wire hangers to leave when the cruise is over
Clothes pins
First time cruiser here...Can I bring my manicure scissors/clippers in the check in bag?
I am going to Nassau in January..What is the weather going to be like...What kind of clothes to pack? How many sea sick pills will I need for 4 days?
Gail I can answer 2 -- scissors should be fine in checked baggage and I bring 2 extra Bonine on a trip, so I would say 6 (8 is one box). I usually only need one a day but bring the extra just in case. It's *very* smooth though
If you are frugal and don't want to waste time in line eating on shore, pack ziplock plastic bags. Then a few hours before ship ports, order room service (a sandwich, etc. ) and pack it with you. Room service food is free.
I pack Tide or equivalent for a few loads of laundry - one load worth per small ziplock and also bring a few dryer sheets. Always find myself doing laundry at some point, and this is cheaper by far than purchasing products on board.
