I picked up some 2.5 gallon zip lock bags at Target today and did a packing test. They really do work. I was able to pack all my sons clothes plus have room to put his shoes in and they would not get his clean clothes dirty.

I don't know what I would do without ziplocks. I use them for my shoes and just write on the bags SHOES and leave them in the suitcase for the next packing.
I use ziplocks for most of our clothes! Fold shirts using a cardboard square guide the size of the bag, slide the shirt in (actually can put in two), zip it shut. Just like they used to come back from the professional laundry! Use the 2 gallon bags for men's shirts.
Also, pack all my undies in one -- all nightgowns, etc. You never know these days how many hands are going to be searching through your suitcase!!! I feel better having my stuff in bags -- and I've been told it makes their job easier as well.

I also use it for my "unmentionables" in. I also use them to ....gasp!....put my smuggled-on-booze in.

They are also good to have on shore excursion inside a back pack. we put our wallets and passports, etc. in one - you never know what can happen. I use them for packing as well. That's right - just squish the air out! And of course.....the uh, liquor.
I have to agree, I can't live without ziplocs. They are great for packing everything. My family all make fun of me and call me the "Ziploc Queen" they swear I have stock in the company the way I use them for everything.
I found some huge zip lock bag at Wal-mart in the camping dept. as well as some other large ones that are larger than the gallon size you find in the grocery.
These might be found at Target or a camping store as well. They are a lot cheaper than the space bags and the huge ones I found are larger than the space bags.
I can get several short outfits in them and still not full.
I was just luck I guess they one had on packing of the huge one, but plenty of the larger size bags.
Maybe you could do a search on the web for "huge zip lock bags"
These are great!!! Save so much space and can be used over and over again.
Just got back from a 3 day camping weekend where it RAINED the entire time. I discovered ziplocks for camping because keeping your clothes dry is essential. The space saving aspect is just a bonus!

I'm still looking for the large zip locks--having no luck at the local Walmart, but I've not checked at Target yet. All of these ideas sound great; I can't wait to put them into action.
Just bought the Hefty Brand 2 1/2 gallon zip locks This weekend at Target. had to really hunt in the paper product isle. Ther is quite the assortment of sizes to look through! lol
I just purchased 2 galleon size at Ralph's Grocery Store. (I'm in the Southern California area)

I could not find the ziplock bags either, so I rolled all of my clothes in the suitcase (I seemed to have more room also) and packed the downey wrinkle releaser. When I unpacked I sprayed on the wrinkle releaser and hung most of my stuff up in the closet. It worked great.
Thanks for the tip on the really large Ziplock bags. They sound great. I will have to take a look at my local Walmart and Target to see if I can find them. I always use the smaller Quart and Gallon size for packing things. The smaller ones are great for makeup and toiletry items as even if something leaks, it doesn't get all over everything. The larger ones are great for other things and help me stay organized. Also small ziplocks in carry-ons make security checks at the airport a breeze. I also stuff in a few extras. On one of my last vacations, I got a fruit salad at one of the airport stands just before boarding a flight. The container had a small leak in it...so out came a ziplock and the salad was safe to put into my tote.
I have been using ziplock bags for years for all the things that everyone has mentioned. And I always carry extras too, "just in case".

Linda Y-
Noted that you're on the Statendam for the Alaskan Cruise. Have you been before? We leave this Friday for Vancouver and then sail on Sunday. Can't wait!!! We were upgraded to the Deluxe Varanda Suite!!! Does anyone know what little 'extras' are included in this room?
hope you enjoy your cruise!!
I still cannot find the large (2 - 2.5 gal) zip locks. Where did you find them at Target? I went to my local Target and looked by the regular storage bags, in the camping department, the luggage department, and I couldn't find them. I didn't take the time to find someone to ask, but if that Target had them, they had hidden them well. I ended up buying a package of medium space savers, but I'd still like some zip locks for my shoes. and toiletries.
Lynn, I took a Northbound Alaska cruise on the Carnival Spirit in September 2002, but this will be my first time on the Statendam. Frankly, I am looking forward to making the cruise on a slightly small ship. The Spirit carries over 2,000 passengers and was completely sold out on my last Alaskan. It was nice, but the lines were always long onboard and in port.
