Default Snorkleing

DH and I want to go snorkeling in Nassau. We both have dive quality fins, masks and snorkels. These take up lots of room and weigh a ton. Should we go ahead and bring our own stuff or rent from the cruise line, (CCL Fantasy). We will probably be doing one of the ship excursions.

Thanks,
Victoria

personally, I am bringing my own mask & snorkel. I did last ime, boyfriend did not, and he ended up getting a snorkel with some sticky stuff like gum or denture cream in it. It was gross. they gave him another one, but his gag reflex was already activated by then. You could just use the fins they provide on the excursion if you wanted to. I know they are heavy to lug around

When we first started cruising we used to bring hubby's diving fins and mask. It was as you say quite heavy and took up much too much room. Never took them again. I would bring the snorkle and mask but leave the fins at home.

fin rental price varies from island to island. I think we paid like $5.00 on St. John.

we're planning to buy our own mask and snorkle - but not the fins. I really don't want to carry them along with us, as they are so heavy. If we need to rent fins, should we rent from the ship or from the shore excursions? I'm not sure if we're doing ship tours or shore tours. Will we get a discounted price if we only need the fins, as opposed to paying the full price?

I would suggest bringing your own fins if you have big or small feet -- my husband was always trying to cram his feet into too -small rentals, and I had to wear too -big ones.
We put all our snorkel equipment into a sports-style duffel bag, along with other stuff that is awkward to pack in a suitcase, and it really was no problem.
