You dont need to bring any{if you dont want} the cruise ships wil have them. Either in a bin by the pool area or your cabin steward will leave them for you in your room. I believe with most cruises now, the towels are left in your room and you need to keep track of them and dont misplace/lose them, otherwise they will charge you about I think 20USD.

Enjoy

Are you allowed to take the beach towels on an excursion?

You can, in fact most people do , but just be careful not to misplace/lose it.

The cruise will supply towels & you can take them off the ship. If you fail to return them you will be charged -- usually about $22-$25 per towel.

Others bring their own towels or buy one as a souvenier at your 1st port so you stand out from the crowd & can find your space.

HAL does not charge or keep track of towels for excursions (and I hope that practice is not abused so that it must change). You can just borrow them both at poolside and at the gangway. I would choose to bring my own towels on lines that charge for lost towels since $25 is a bit high for a used towel!

On NCL the pool towels are located in bins throughout the pool deck. For beach towels on excursions, you must sign them out as you leave the ship. You will receive a receipt. If you return the towel and the receipt, you will not be charged.

On RCCL the pool towels were located in bins throughout the pool areas and towels were left on your bed each night for shore excursions the next day.
