How do you pack a men's suit?

We are really not wanting to take a garment bag (of course we don't have one anyway) - someone told me yesterday that you could pack a men's suit in a suitcase - wouldn't that mess the Jacket up? I can't imagine how you would pack it and then pile other stuff on top of it.

When you carry your own water and cokes and snacks on board and you put them in checked luggage - do you use can cokes or the bottled cokes? Does the checked luggage go through a metal dector also?

We leave next Thursday and I'm starting my packing list.

Whenever I pack a suit, I turn the jacket inside out and then fold it very gently. I don't know why, but doing this seems to prevent a lot of wrinkles. An elderly gentleman taught me this years ago.

Be sure to put the suit in a plastic cleaner bag, helps with wrinkles and I always use a garment bag. Put the suit on top, last, that should help.

i always use the garment bag, but if you pack it in the plastic cleaners bag and put it in last it should be less wrinkled.
There is no need to pack snacks, the ship provides lots and lots of food.
If you must "smuggle" in soda then i would pack bottles in my checked luggage. Buy it in port before you sail, wrap it very well, you wouldn't want sticky soda all over your clothes.
Don't bother to pack water, the ships tap water is very good. Go to the grocery store in port before you board the ship and buy a couple of small bottles of water, carry them on with you and re-fill those bottles from the tap

I put a large black "hefty" garbage bag over the suit (poking the hanger thru the bottom of the bag) and then gently fold it in half and place it on top of a suitcase that's about half full of clothes. It stays nice doesn't wrinkle that way.

We are bringing a 12 pack of soda in our checked luggage, wrapped in a sealed plastic bag. We are also bringing along 3 bottles of wine...haven't decided whether to carry it on or put it in the checked suitcase. This is NOT smuggling because both the Carnival website and our cruise docs say that we can bring a reasonable amount of soda and wine for personal consumption in our cabins (or if we bring the wine to dinner, then we'll pay the uncorkage fee). These quanities should be reasonable for one week for a family of 3.

Valentina - sounds reasonable to me. I would pack the wine in your carry-on, you wouldn't want to risk breakage and spillage of wine all over your clothes.
Some cruise lines let you bring soda on board, some don't.

Re: How do you pack a men's suit?

I just purchased ($99 at the Luggage Outlet) a 29" suitcase that has a zippered compartment at the tip (inside the lid) spec. for holding suits (an added advantage is that there is another zippered portion on the bottem for packing wet or soiled items separatly from the main packing space-I won't be packing a suit though, we have done the tux packages for my husband on our last 2 cruises and it has been so much easier-everything is waiting for us in the stateroom closet when we arrive.

With regards to wine-wrap it in bubble wrap and put in in between layers of clothing in your suitcase to prevent breakage (you can recycle the bubble wrap for fragile souvineers)-as far as soda goes, I would also suggest you buy it in port rather than having to travel with it. So many of the stores now carry the airline size 6 packs that would be great as far as minimizing space in the little stateroom fridges-I am packing several to take on a camping trip this weekend (less waste as well).

happy cruising!

Has anyone had any experience with folding the suit over with clothing in the fold? It seems to me that the more rounded the fold is, the less likely it'll develop a crease. Make sense?
