Clothes for Alaska in September
Reading all info on packing for a cruise. I have a travel site on which I placed a packing list, but the cruises apparently call for a couple additional items such as: night lights, power strips, extension cord and duct tape. Very interesting. I will have to add those.

Anyway, wondering more about the weather and what those of you who have taken cruise to Alaska in Sept. or May have to suggest.

We are NOT into dressing trying to figure out how to get around that in the best way.

Are we expected to "dress" for dinner every night? No jeans or whatever???? Casual pants & polo shirt and slacks with nice shirt??

HI Betty,
Yes, there should be 2 formal nights for a 7 day cruise and you really should re-think getting dressed up, its very special those nights in the dining room, you'd be missing a good meal and a good time. Even my husband who doesn't really like to, will when cruising and actually doesn't mind. You can even wear the same dress if you want to, I don't think anyone would notice or mix and match, but try to do the formal evenings, they really are nice.

Some like to dress up, others don't. Guess we'll go to the buffet.

Trying to see if I can post some pictures. Bear with me.

Be ann - nice pics but I think you are a little confused hon - neither pic has bears - burgs and lions - but no bears. Just kidding - I think the best advice would be to go with what you are comfortable in. Dressing up doesn't have to mean sequins and satin or a tux for the guys. Don't stress - after all it is your special holiday. Just go with what my dear granny would have called "presentable". A fancy pair of earrings and a tie for him would do wonders. Have a great trip - TTFN Jennifer

oops didn't mean "he" should wear the earrings - unless he wants to of course - lol. Jennifer

Dear Donna,

I have heard that on the Alaska cruises, other than the Formal nights, many people just go with Nice Casual, sort of skipping the Informal (what does that mean these days anyway?)

We will be on the Summit in September for 2 weeks. Any advice will be welcomed!

Hi Beth,
When we were on Infinity, they did have the semi formal evenings where the guys wore sports jackets, may-be thats changed since we went?? I also remember that almost everyone dressed as the code said. We had 2 formals, and just one of the semi's and the rest casual.

Re: Clothes for Alaska in September
hi beth

i went to alaska last sept on the carnival spirit. i dressed up for the two formal nights and on the other nites i wore a nice pair of black pants with a few different tops and i took a couple of dresses i would wear out to a casual dinner at home. do not stress over dressing for alaska and breaking the bank for this cruise. on ship days i wore some nice comfy sweats and sweaters. for the shore days it was the same attire ( a pair of jeans too ) and a lightweight nylon windbreaker with hood. i was fine and did not need a heavier coat . a turtleneck came in handy if i was on the deck at night. being comfortable is the most important thing. for shoes i had my formal strappy pair, black flats and my comfy tennies. even though i had taken out half of the clothes before i left home i still had too many clothes with me. i will know the next time to cut back even more. have a great time on your trip.

Re: Clothes for Alaska in September
I wore black on both formal nights on our September Alaska cruise. Both dresses also had spaghetti straps and I brought along my black shawl that I bought for $10 in the ship mall.
