Default A Question For the Ladies - SLIPS

I work in a casual environment and do not have to dress up for work. I bought a few dresses for my cruise, and although they are not 'see through' , I noticed you can 'see light' through them when I try them on and looked in a full lengh mirror in bright daylight. Now, my Mom always made me wear slips with all dresses when I was young. I asked a few of my friends about slips and whether or not they wore them, and they laughed at me. They said "what is anyone going to see, the outline of your legs, big deal". They said women just dont wear slips anymore. So my question is, how many people wear slips?

Unless my skirt/dess is lined, I always wear a slip to work.

On a cruise, I wouldn't wear a slip under a casual sundress.

Not unless it is absolutely necessary! If you are wearing the dress in the evening, then you don't have to worry about the sunlight shining through!

I always wear a slip unless the skirt is lined. It's not just the see-through aspect. If I'm not wearing nylons or a slip, my skirt will stick when I sit down, expecially in hot and/or humid conditions.

I always wear a slip at work too (unless the skirt is lined). For a casual sundress though, I wouldn't worry about it.

Hey Jeleja, my suggestion is this.... make sure you don't have major panty lines I skip the slip only if I can get away without major panty lines. If I'm wearing white I try to make sure my panties don't show through, if they do I wear a slip.

I always wear slips. As a matter of fact, with thin skirts (of which I have several) I will usually wear two or three slips just to be sure everything is opaque. My suggestion would be to buy several slips and take them all along just so you have what you need... it's hard to find slips out in the middle of the ocean if you don't have them with you :-)

A slip always makes your dress "hang" better IMHO.

Wow, a lot of slip wearers! I must admit that I haven't worn one in years. Do whatever makes YOU comfortable, slip or no slip!

Keep in mind that this is coming from a 20 (soon to be 21) year old but I don't wear slips unless my mother tells me I should. I think it's really up to you.

I'm a slip wearer too, but I've seen many leg outlines lately. Seems they are not worn as much as they used to. At least they're easy to pack and don't take up much room.

PS........I wear pantyhose too! I read on another message board that they are hardly worn anymore either. I'm living in the dark ages.

I definitely wear pantyhose! I might not on the ship because of the caribbean heat and I'm not planning on wearing outfits where I would need to wear it. I guess we'll see!

Most of my business skirts are thicker and wouldn't need a slip. My formal gown on the other hand (or is that leg?) is pretty thin and flashy. I think before I go, I'll put on my gown and walk outside. If my DH likes it too much, I'll wear a slip. <VBG>

If I can see daylight through the dress or skirt I will wear a slip. It just looks better in my opinion.

Slips! Yuck! Haven't worn one since parochial school uniform in the 60's. My mom always sewed lined skirts and so I always bought good skirts with linings. Guaranteed to stay in place. But that's my honest opinion. Whatever makes you feel more comfortable, that's your call.

my gentleman answer - yes, slips are more elegant, and heat will not be an issue in doors

my pig answer - no slip - there's nothing like a little silhouette action to get the 'ol imagination fired up !!

I haven't worn a slip since I was under the age of 10 so I say...No. If you can see through the skirt I might consider it. But otherwise....

Yes! to slips. Being modest is being elegant. I believe it is proper. I agree with Dorothy, a dress/skirt just hangs better with the right slip.
