Best steam iron and converters

Could anyone tell me what the best and most efficient travel steam iron is? Also if you know if they have to be dual voltage. What type of converters are needed for the large ships? My hair is long and thick and I takes forever to dry - I read that the ships' hair dryers are a bit slower.... Is this true?

Walmart sells a Black & Decker travel iron. Of the 3 travel irons I have owned, this one is the best. There is a steam setting on it too. The majority of the ships do not require converters. But you should bring along an outlet strip if you plan on plugging in more than one appliance at once.

I was told prior to my cruise that travel irons were a big no-no in the cabins. Was I misinformed?

They are a big no-no just like smuggling booze on board, but I have never had either taken away yet. We even leave the iron out in the open. Just make sure it is unplugged when you aren't using it. I know that is common sense but some people still need to be told.

On my recent VOS cruise, several people had their irons confiscated. The irons were returned when they disembarked. No problem with alcohol, however:-)

Steamers are fine, it the travel irons that pose the fire hazard and are not allowed on the ship. Do you want to risk setting the ship afire?? No need for a converter, you might want to bring along a multi-outlet plug as outlets are at a premium on cruise ships. Yes bring your own hairdryer since you have long thick hair. It will take you forever and you will burn up the dryer that the ship provides.
