I grew up with that same rule, but it was fine for cruising (IMHO).

Hi Darla - remember you'll be going to San Diego and Catalina...white pants will be fine!! I did find that a dressy pair of black capris and a more casual pair of black capris worked out fine for me, especially because we walked from the Monarch to the shopping area of Ensenada. You will be perfectly fine whatever colors you settle on...just relax and have a great time! My 19 yr old wore gym shorts with camisole tops or her swimsuit w/pareo during the day and then changed into casual sundresses for dinner. We sat next to a very nice family of 4 at dinner and I can't remember a thing that they wore!!
I love wearing while on any southern/pacific cruise. Everything goes with it.
I always pack the new Clorox Bleach pen, just in case I get a spill on them.
Cruising to Canada/New England in October, I guess I'll leave the whites home.

It is perpetually spring/summer in the caribbean. I just bought a FABULOUS pair of white pants ($250 on sale for $95!!) to wear on my 9/26 cruise. I lived in Aruba for a while in high school - sundresses, linen, cotton, silks all year round.
We leave on Monday and will have a wonderful time ! Will bring my white pants & I might even wear them. . I hope I am having too much fun to worry about it. Anyway technically its still summer until September 21 or September 22.
More importantly, Does anybody know if the Monarch of the Sea's has Wheel of Fortune in their casino?
Thanks to everybody here I feel more comfortable.
Sorry about the spelling, hope this is OKAY with you now!!! How does it feel being perfect? lol Lonely I bet.
How about Otay???? Please get a sense of humor.
Again Thanks to All who responded even the spelling cop.
Darla - personally I like "otay" has kind of a buckwheat flavour. Pay no attention to the nitpickers - just think - there but for the grace of God .... Have a wonderful trip - white pants and all. ttfn Jennifer
I love Wheel of Fortune! I didn't play it on the Monarch...$1/machine and I usually stick to quarters...and still lost plenty!! Have a great cruise!! I did wear my white pants for embarking/disembarking! just FYI
I also love Wheel of Fortune!! I think the whole thing of the "spin" is addictive, but not sure how much I will play if they only have $l machines. P.S. The white pants are ready to go. lol I see my husband has even put out a few ties to pack. What next.
Again Thanks to all who answered.
Will make a report when we get back.
Hey Harry! I couldn't agree more concerning Andy! My big Ed would sure love to be with us when we go cruising. He's such a good dog and would never bother anyone. I wonder if there is such a thing as a pet-friendly cruise? Anyone ever heard of one? Just sitting here wondering....
White Pants Update!!
Happy to report that I wore my white pants with a long black top to dinner on the ship and I would not hesitate to wear them again on a cruise in the summer or early part of September in a warm weather climate. P.S, I wore black slip on sandals. haha
Now I hereby promise to put away my white pants until June l. lol
About the tourists. In Arizona, we can usually identify tourists when they wear tee shirts and shorts and the residents are wearing long sleeves or even light sweaters Also most of us residents don't go in the pool until the water is 85 but the tourists will.
Formal night at our table consisted of 2 of the women wearing long dressy gowns and 3 men had on tuxedo's, my husband wore a nice jacket, tie and dress pants and I wore a long dress(not formal). We felt fine as everybody was dressed differently but I did not see any jeans, etc on the formal night.
Hi Itsinko. I have been meaning to post my opinions/review of our cruise. Actually we were really disappointed mostly with the food. Not that missing a few meals would hurt me. Right before the cruise we found out that the early or main seating was changed to 5:30pm, that really was too early. But I really loved being on the water. Neither one of us is real interested in too much ship activity but we love being on the ship, and relaxing and I also enjoyed going to the Anchor bar and also the crown viking and just having a drink and looking outside. Looking at scenery and the side trips would interest us a lot. But I did throw some money in the "wheel of fortune"!!
Everbody we met on the cruise was nice and very friendly. We also give the cruise a high rating for the service. Our tablemates were all great, we felt comfortable with them right away & one guy had done a lot of cruising and had even been on a month long cruise!
About cruising again, we both agreed that we will take another cruise. Also I think I like the idea of the free style cruising, where you eat dinner when you want to.
We will need to save some money for the next cruise because we both are interested in doing an Alaska cruise and I know all those tours are expensive.'
Do you have any suggestions on an Alaska cruise? Have you ever went on one?
Hi Darla - I agree with you on the food. Dinner was great but lunch wasn't very good. Haven't been on an Alaska cruise; going on the West Coast Disney cruise next summer. DD didn't like Ensenada at all and she says she doesn't want to get off the ship this time! The Cruise Critic website has a lot of Alaska info. We are also researching a Tahiti/Bora Bora cruise and will look into the Princess cruiseline. Happy cruising to you!!
I have sailed to Alaska twice and loved it, however it is expensive. Caught salmon in Canada and the ship cleaned and packaged it, and had a salmon bake when I returned home. Enjoyed the helicopter ride up to the Mendenhal glacier, and also went river rafting. My first cruise to Alaska was for 10 days, which was really great. Enjoyed seeing Victoria, and having tea at the Empress Hotel. Also visited Butchart? gardens which was very impressive. Rented scooters at one of the ports and this is a fun way to get around.
I'm new to the boards but feel as though it's okay to give opinion.
There are no rules anymore.
It used to be patent leather was for spring only.
But so many things have changed in fashion it seems that it's almost whatever you want to wear is okay.
I love white and I love white in the tropics no matter what time of year. I can't understand wearing black in December when it's 75 degrees.
I use to never wear white after Labor Day and never before Memorial Day but that's only in the north. I will wear white anywhere south of Miami.
