Disembark: Carrying off luggage?

My husband and I have to catch a early flight the morning of disembarking. Could we not hand off our luggage and carry it off ourselves? Is that allowed? Or does it have to go through some search procedures?

Some ports allow it and others don't. We did it at the Port of New Orleans but since then they have stopped it.

depends upon the port and the ship. Some allow you self-disembark and some do not. Notify the purser when you get aboard that you have an early flight and you will get first-off disembarkation tags for your luggage.
If you can do it, and you don't mind hauling ALL your own luggage down those narrow hallways, past the passengers that will be sitting on the stairs and down the gangway onto the pier.......
