omg...i thought i was macho and since the guides were barefoot...i went barefoot..WHAT PAIN!...i think the shoes are more to protect the bottoms of your feet against painful rocks than slipping..wear thick soles....lol
We have been on over 20 cruises and let me tell you that Dunns Falls is very dang erous. Very slippery!!! My young son in law fell and scraped his leg which got infected later. My husband and I who are very active and fairly fit decided to abandon the whole thing and climbed down.
they make you hold hands with each other in a line all the way up...if one goes down everyone goes down. Hated it.
Old tennis shoes are great, assuming they're not worn slick on the bottom. You need the traction and tennis shoes will provide you better support than their thinner cousins.
Toss 'em when you're done - who needs old, wet sneakers stinking up your cabin.
enjoy! Oh by the way, the water is very, very cold!
