Kids clothing on non formal nights

My children will be dressed properly for the formal dinner but why can't they wear nice shorts with a polo type shirt for the other non formal nights in the dining room. My boys wear this to church on Sundays and I thought it would be okay for the dining room. Let me know if I am wrong.

Thanks
Lola

Shorts are not permitted in the main dining room, but are fine for the lido buffet. From Carnival's website:

>>Depending on the length of the cruise, either formal dress or casual resort wear is required in the Dining Room. The dress requirement for children is the same. For those not wanting to dress up, the Lido restaurants are open nightly (with the exception of the last evening of the cruise), and have a casual dress code. Formal Wear: tuxedo (optional); suit and tie; sport coat, tie and slacks; evening gown; cocktail dress; pantsuit Casual Resort Wear: sport shirts and slacks; dresses; skirts; pantsuit NOTE: Shorts, t-shirts and bathing attire are not permitted in the Dining Room during dinner. >>

My son did just fine in long pants all nights. He often went back to the room after dinner to change into shorts, though.

I brought 2 prs of khaki pants for my son for dinner. He changed right after into his shorts.

shorts are not allowed in the main dining rooms during dinner hours. Shorts may be worn in the dining room during breakfast & lunch. A couple of nice pairs of dockers type or cargo pants, lots of kids wear the zip-off leg type pants.

Took 3 sons on a cruise last April, they wore slacks/dockers on non-formal nights.
There were also 2 nights that they choose to eat with thier "New" friends at the buffett, in there they can wear shorts.

Dockers are what my son (3) wears, even on formal night with a jacket and tie. Have you seen the zip off versions? Some arent as nice as regular Dockers, but the bottom half of the legs can be zipped off and worn as shorts. Might be an idea-or just have them go back and change.
