Default Locks on Suit cases

Please bear with me. I still have 17 days to go and the questions keep coming up. You guys are the best for me to ask. I really appreciate all of your advice and information!!!!

I was told we were to lock our suitcases. If we have locks on them how do they get into them to search them??

are you flying in? If so then you should either buy the TSA approved locks or do what everyone else on these board does, use plastic cable/wire ties. If your bags need to be searched all they do is snip the ties off. If you use regular locks, they could decide to cut them off. Bring extra ties and tuck a pair of nail clippers into the outside zippered compartment of your checked baggage.
If you are not flying in then by all means lock your luggage.

Another vote for zip ties...........they are inexpensive and do the job just fine. Just remember to keep the loop a little loose for easier removal.

my friend who went with me on my last cruise had the original keys for her older style bags. at our '' small airport '' they made her take them off. i had extra zip-ties in my purse that she used instead. so if you have the original keys for you luggage you might as well leave them at home. at least if you are flying on northwest. i always use the zip-ties and have a small pair of nail clippers in my carry on or purse that i use to cut them.

Where do you get these cable ties? Are they those white things? I think I know what you are all talking about, but I'm not sure.
Thanks!

Hi missdeels,

I found cable ties at K-Mart in the automotive department. The ones I bought are black, but I've seen a picture somewhere on here (from Mike, I think) of some that are white. I imagine that WalMart has them, too.

they can also be called cable ties, and try wal-mart, target, or k-mart... they are usually in one of three places. Automotive, Hardware, or Electronics. Just find a sales clerk, and ask them where the zip ties are. good luck!

zip-ties, wire-ties, cable-ties, they are all the same. You can get them at WalMart, Target, usually found in the automotive department, they come in all colors. Get colorful ones if you can. They are cheap.

my friend had the regular little keys on her bags when we went on my last cruise. even in our small airport, they made her take them off before they checked her bags in. i had extra zip-ties in my purse that i gave her to use. they are really cheap. i get mine at my local dollar store. a whole bag for a buck. a small pair of fingernail clippers will cut them to take them off.

You can get TSA locks at Walmart for under $6.00. They work great, but I have used cable ties also, before the TSA locks.
