We are cruising on the Norwegian Wind over New Year's (Hawaiin cruise). If the formal night is NOT New Year's Eve, should I still plan on dressing up? I normally do at home, as do lots of people, but I don't want to seem silly.

On land, a New Year's Eve party could be either formal or masqerade. I'm guessing that some ships may move a formal night to New Year's Eve, some ships may hold an additional formal night no New Year's Eve, and some ships may have a masquerade party on New Year's Eve if it does not fall on a formal night. The best advice that I can give is to go on the cruise prepared for any of these scanarios.
I am going on the century cruise for new years eve. I understand on this cruise there is one formal night, usually I understand the formal nights are not on port days ( only went on one cruise, but that is how it was on triumph) , but new years eve is on a port day, key west. Do you know if this will be a formal night? Or will there be two formal nights because it is a new years eve cruise? Does any one know the itinerary for this cruise with regard to which nights are what? Much appreciated in advance. Oh yes, what is masquarade?

Hello!
I'll also be cruising for new years but on the Carnival Valor. I called to ask about the attire to carnival and they said that none of the formal nights were on new year's eve but that anyways there was going to be a celebration, the bad thing here is I never understood the attire for this "celebration"
i would go prepared to dress up on New Year's Eve even if it isn't stated as "Formal Night" most people when they go out for New Year's Eve celebrations get dressed-up. Once aboard i would seek out the Cruise director or a staff member and ask.
Masquerade - costume ball, for New Year's Eve it is usually fancy masks
A little black dress is the perfect thing for such an occasion!
Yes, for those of you whose figures to show off a "little black dress" at its best!
BTW, you did say that you work as a fashion model, didn't you? ;-)
Some of us don't have those fabulous figures, though. If I were to don a little black dress, it would bulge in the wrong places and not in the right ones. Thus, I think that I'll wear something else....
