Default Delta Airlines size limit on baggage

We are traveling Delta to San Juan for you cruise in 13 days. We were told by a friend that Delta has changed their size limit on suitcases. They can't be bigger than 62"(length+width+depth). We bought a suitcase before christmas that deppending on huw you measure it could be anywere from 62 to 65 inches. Wanted to know if anyone had flown Delta lately and knew anything about this?? Help-we're runnig out of time and I don't want to pay the $100.00 fine on 2 pieces.

Your measurement does NOT include handles or Wheels if that helps any.
Remember too that there are weight limits as well 50 lb for domestic not sure on international, be sure to check on their website.

Thanks for the reply. I'm aware of the weight limit, that's alright. It's just aggravating to think luggage companies sell you bags that are too large to use.

did you check Delta's web site? the luggage size limits usually only apply to your carry-on luggge, not your checked baggage. Its weight that you have to worry about with your checked baggage. They will charge you extra if your bag is overweight.

Default Oversize luggage

Not only do airlines impose a penalty on overweight checked bags, but some also penalize you if your checked bag exceeds their stated size limits. Your best source for what your airline's limits are is the airline itself or their website.

Paulao,

Delta's baggage limits (http://www.delta.com/traveling_check...ance/index.jsp) actually are pretty standard for North American airlines. As a general rule, it's better to split the weight between two smaller bags than to pack it all into one mammoth bag. With "roller back" luggage, it's quite easy to take one bag in each hand with a carry-on on top of one of the bags.

Norm.

You are quite incorrect there there is in fact a size limit of 62 inches total measurement for most domestic airlines. and a weight limit of 50 lbs per checked bag.

We also have a huge travelpro that we bought for our transatlantic cruises where we are gone for 3 weeks or more. Depending on how you measure it, it ranges from 62-65 inches or more if you zip open the expanding space. On some airlines, they do include wheels and handles in the measurements. The airlines usually let this bag go thru without extra charge for size. I have never had anyone measure our bag.
When I pack to fill this bag to regular capacity, it is about 70 pounds. Between getting our flight and actually flying, Delta changed their weight restrictions on international flights to 50lbs. When we got to the airport and put our bags on the scale, monster bag as I tend to call it was 68 lbs. Another of our bags was 52 lbs. The other two were right at 50 lbs. The person at Delta told us that they would have to charge us for an overweight bag. We said that wasn't a problem, we figured that they would since we were going to be gone for over 3 weeks with varying temperatures ranging from Chicago, Barcelona, Villefranche, Carnary Islands, and post cruise stay in Florida so we had to pack for 3 seasons. The Delta rep was very nice and only charged us for 1 bag overweight. I guess it pays to be pleasant.
