This may be a silly question but it just ocurred to me. When you get to the port and hand your luggage (and a tip) to the porters, do you hand over your carry-on (with change of clothes, docs, jewelry etc), or do you keep it with you until you can check in to your cabin? Sorry if it's a newbie question!!
We have not inherited the earth from our ancestors. We have only borrowed it from our children.
You keep your carry on with you until you get to your cabin. A ship's, white gloved, attendant may escort you to your cabin and take the carry on to your cabin. You usually give that person a dollar or two.
Pack all your medications and valuables in your carry on and never let it leave your sight.

keep your carry-on with you, do not give it to the porter. FYI - the carry-on has to go thru the security scanner at port, the scanners are the same size as the ones the airport uses. If your carry-on won't fit thru the scanner then you will have to have it checked thru with your large luggage.
