Default Do you ever feel that you're OVER-packing for a cruise?

Sometimes, when you're packing for a cruise, do you feel as if you're bringing half the house with you?

not so much anymore, have cruised enough times to pretty much know what to pack and what to leave at home.

The best and most accurate advice I received came from this board. Determine what you think you need then... take half as many clothes and twice as much money. After our first cruise I found this to be true.

It always feels like I am taking too much stuff. But, everything I take either gets used or has been needed in the past. Besides, if you could see my house, you would know how much I leave behind! Do wish I could take my kitty, though.

As Lisa mentioned, after a few cruises we found out what was important and what we could leave at home. Shoes were a big item....I found I could get along very well with a pair of sneakers, sandal/slides, and my dress shoes (black) for formal nights. I didn't need a pair of shoes to match every outfit, takes up a lot of room in my suitcase and adds a lot of weight.

The heck you say!!!! I simply take a separate bag for my shoes . I can get by with half the clothes but never half the shoes!

Hi, my name is Darlene, and I have a shoe fetish! No, my DH doesn't understand. For him 1 pair of sneakers, 1 pair of water shoes, 1 pair of black shoes. How underdressed is that, I ask?

Darlene, I confess that I am also a shoeaholic, I love shoes but after lugging those heavy suitcases filled with all my shoes but wearing only two or three pairs of those shoes, I changed my strategy. Now, when I pack for a cruise, I take a deep breath, grab the shoes I absolutely need and walk away from my closet real quick and don't look back.

I travel a lot through business or pleasure. I've started making it a game to see if I gauge it just right for my packing. On the last day I take out my last bit of clean clothes. Last trip I ended up with two extra tops.

I really do the overkill, but it is so hard to decide. I just never know what my feet will be wanting on a certain day. O.K. For the cruise in November, I will try real hard to limit my shoes. What a challenge It is a 4-day to Cozumel, so this will be a good start. I think I can...., I think I can...., I think I can....

Haha ! I'm a shoe addict too! I am bringing 5-6 pairs of shoes. I think that is too much; but this is my first cruise. Even if it may be a little too much, I have tons of luggage space left, though

I remember on one of my 7-day cruises I took 12 or 13 pairs of shoes! No, I didn't wear all of them, but I call it options

Default over packing

I don't over pack. I over buy!! See things in the shops at home that would be perfect for a cruise. Don't wear it here (altho we live in Florida) and then can't take it all on a trip because that would be overpacking. Swore I would never be like my Mom and leave tags on clothes in the closet and then donate them but guess what.........

I have bought too many things for the cruises too. I buy even when I don't even know i'm going on a cruise. Like this last year I bought a swimming suit and 2 cotton jackets. I thought they be perfect for a cruise and they have sit in my closet waiting. Now we are going on a cruise next summer and i'm ready. Now I have all the clothes I bought in the past and the new ones. The old clothes are timeless, black pants and black jacket.

Saturday I was looking at a Blair catalog and wishing I could by some shoes and outfits. We've hidden the credit cards so we don't buy a bunch of stuff. My husband has a camera he wants to buy. If he had the credit card he would have already bought it. Not to mention excursions, I would have booked some already. Cruises seems to be a money magnet for me.

I always overpack, but every cruise it gets less and less. I just want to be prepared. DH would go with a small overnight bag if I let him. We are total opposites. And, yes, I take several pairs of shoes--you never know when you will need them. Better safe than sorry!
Counting the days till Mexico! Need new canvas slip-ons.

Default speaking of shoes

On our last cruise I had had some shoes dyed black for a wedding. I wore them on the first formal night and on the deck they got a little damp and they turned the bottoms of my feet black. I spent the rest of the cruise trying to hide my black bottom feet. Next time new, undyed shoes and yes, probably way too many lol, Cozzette

Two things I've never had a problem with on a cruise: overpacking and underdrinking. :o
