Smart Casual Dress Code on RCI Navigator from Southampton

Can anyone offer any advice on what people really wear on smart casual nights on this ship/crusie line when departing from the UK. Last year on similar nights on P&O from the UK it was shirt, jacket and tie (as it should be!!!!) but last time on RCI in the caribbean it was jeans and hawaiian shirts (OK for caribbean but why do RCI still state shirt/jacket on their web site and then make it hawaiian shirt night).

That has been much debated on these boards.... Smart casual would mean long docker pants with a nice shirt to me.... Others don't like to "dress up" at all or to them smart casual means jeans and a polo instead of wearing shorts/tank top and flip flops.. sooooooo.... for whatever its worth...... some people just don't like the dress code and wear whatever they want. don't let it bother you... just have a good time on your cruise...

RCI isn't nearly as formal of a line as P&O. Since you are sailing from Europe I would go with a nice pair of trousers a polo or short-sleeve button down and a blazer for a man. For the ladies a nice dress, skirt/blouse or a nice pair of trousers and a blouse would be fine for smart casual on RCI

I know I've read many a descussion over the years whilst trying to decide on what to pack. 'Smart casual would mean long docker pants with a nice shirt to me' - and to me but thats not how its described by RCI on the website.

Problem is it does bother me because I took my suit last time and went abck to get changed because I felt so out of place compared to everyone else.

BTW whats a tank top. To me (english) its a jumper with no sleeves.

A tank top is a casual shirt with no sleeves and usually a fairly low neck line. Here in Flroida, I live in them and always take them on cruises. You can put a nice open shirt over them and go from cool dress to nice in a moment.

nwalch - i totally understand your point of view and that is why i suggested what i did. The outfits i suggested can be dressed up or down depending upon your fellow passengers.

Yes thanks for your help. I'm taking my suits but also more polo shirts so I can dress them down by just wearing the trouses with a shirt/polo shirt if required. The prominade web cam comes in handy to see what others are wearing before you go out!!!!!

We were on the Jewel last summer in the Baltic region. You will find Europeans dress more formal than we do. At least on the Jewel they did. My husband wore a dressy sweater shirt with a blazer and I wore a sleeveless fancier summer dress for smart casual. The other gentleman from the US did not wear a suit jacket but a shirt and tie. The two couples from England teased both my husband and the other gentleman for dressing down. I think they were just joking but they did mention how casual Americans dressed all the time. Frankly we dressed up a lot more than we would have on a Caribbean cruise.
